I mean no disrespect, especially after hearing Ronnie's speach at the Rockwalk night, but when I see the pictures of Ronnie standing in the middle of these two guys, it just hits me wrong.
I checked into the other guy-Terry Bozzio's career, and he's been around along time and done a lot. So I can't say much about whether or not he deserved the honor to share this night with RJD.
But Slash? I mean, he was the guitar player for G&R, Slash's Snakepit, and Velvet Revolver...He's only been around since like the mid 80's (forgive me if I've missed something), and this is not about bashing Slash. Other than G&R being a great band in the day, how on earth did they think he was any where near RJD's contribution to rock that they would stand them up there together?
I mean, this is Ronnie James Dio for God's sake.
IMO, Ronnie should have had a night to himself. Bob Seger didn't share the honor with anyone for God's sake. This should have been about him, or at least have someone who deserved the honor of standing next to him.
Here's the list so you can see who had the honor to themselves. IMO, when it is just the one person being inducted, unless it's the whole band, it is more of an honor, which RJD deserves and should have received a long time ago .

Am I totally off base here?? |

I´ve seen Bozzio perform with Fantomas and Zappa plays Zappa. Really talented guy!
| Quote: |
| Bozzio is noted for creating the melodic ostinato for the drum set. In most of Bozzio’s works the ostinato is played using various bass drum and hi-hat permutations while he solos against these rhythms using his hands. Bozzio developed the application for the melodic ostinato for drum set when he noticed how a pianist would solo or play counter rhythms against the ostinato. He then applied this concept to the drum set. |
G N'R are huge, they have one of the most legendary rock album of all time (Appetite for destruction). So that makes Slash important in people's mind. Memorable tunes from not that long ago. Dio isn't that popular in the US today. Dio hit it big time 75-85 or something like that.
I'ts ok by me, not a huge fan of these guys, but they're good. |

I think Ronnie should not have had to share it - I don't like Slash and I don't know who the other guy is. But what difference is my opinion going to make? For most people, Slash was the draw there (horiffically) _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Come on people are you kidding me ?
DIO with those 2?
Ronnie's contribution to music is more than the other 2 guys together.
He has something that will remain to history... his Voice..
Sometime in the future you will listen radio and you will say " That's
Ronnie James DIO men, the voice of metal.."
Ronnie left heritage to the music people...
The best fuc...g Voice ever ...

To the coop,
Slash is awesome. He is an excellent guitarist. I also don't know who the other dude is, but feel that Dio should have shared the honer with Slash. _________________ Chase the horizons, catch the illusion

My guitar ability is shameful, so I don't deny that he must have some sort of ability there, but I don't care for him one bit. I don't like the tone of his guitar, and LOATH G'N'R (which, to be honest is probably where my dislike for him comes from, really), and just because Alice likes him - well - that has no impact on my thoughts at all!
But, also, despite my feelings for the others who were honoured, I fell it's demeaning when a person - any person is made to share any honour. It should be an individual event, no matter who it is, out of respect for the person's contribution. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

There are four people in the world I listen to with open ears:
Alice Cooper
Tony Iommi
RJD
Slash
Anyway, I like GNR. But, I mean, before I heard them really, I associated them with Poison, and actually loathed Slash because I thought he looked like an idiot. Then I heard the music and that was awesome. Poison still sucks, always will suck, always has.
As for my guitar ability, a couple of my idiot friends think I'm good at shredding and one thinks that I'm good enough to be in Kiss...that's going a little to far. I don't tempt the rock gods. _________________ Chase the horizons, catch the illusion

I feel i should point out that I haven't made this decision lightly - I have heard tons of G'N'R - one of my best friends - she is obsessed with G'N'R - she's played me everything she can think of to try and get me to like them (including the track with Alice on vocals), and it hasn't happened.
Anyway - I shouldn't rant - it's off topic!!
But, still I maintain - whoever gets the honour, it should be their day, and no sharing, no matter who it is, or what I feel about them. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

With all due respect, do you think that Slash's career is comprable to RJD's? So he's an excellent guitar player from about 85'. Woop de freakin' do.
I guess my point is that Ronnie is a legend and a musical and vocal genius...IMO. To stand there with Slash to me is an insult.
But we all have our own opinions, even if yours is wrong , just kidding. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

I've never heard a GNR song w/ Alice on vocals.

As for this, I think that Ronnie should have been in the middle.
I have no clue who Bozzio is.
In all of the GNR interviews I've seen Slash and Axl on, I have never really heard Slash talk. I've heard him talk before, like "No, I was the guy in high school who dressed different from everybody else"-VH1's Heavy, the story of metal
But Axl always did the talking. So I think that Dio should have given the speech, as that I have heard him talk at interviews.
(in addition to that, I think guitarists should have been there and received credit because I think it is the guitarist in the band who makes the band metal. Not the singer. The singer only adds and is meant to bring the audience into the show, but the guitarist adds the power riffs......that is a heavy burden...which is why I am grateful that Dio replaced Vivian Campbell w/ Craig Goldy [who I think is much better] and angry that Ozzy tried to replace his friend Randy Rhoads with shredder Zakk Wylde, who is nothing compared to Randy.)

Ok regardless if there were two other people getting awards or not lets add something that I see some of you may not know.
A) the background music played for this event was nothing but Ronnie's career.
B) Ronnie may had gone second with Slash going last but both of the other two came on relatively quicker. Besides the host giving an introduction Ronnie had THREE people give speeches.
C) People who were out in the audience were getting impatient in what seemed like they were stretching the time before Ronnie came on. The other two they did not.
Not to mention it was said the entire Dio band was there BUT I swore they said a different name for Dio's guitarist. Unless the guy got it wrong he did not say Craig. Unless he was refering to Pilson by mistake but again he did not say Jeff Pilson until he said Jeff Pilson former bass player for Dio etc as he introduced him to make a speech.
Jeff and Rudy obviously like Ronnie very much. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,

I didn't know any of that...thanks. But I'm still not quite sure of your opinion...I'm a little confused . _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

I believe it was called the Garden (or something like that), but whatever it was, I couldn't get past the music.

Ronnie James Dio has been with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and DIO. He's been around for a very long time and still makes great music.
Slash has been with Guns n Roses, and what else? _________________ You're Breathless, ready to burn

Ronnie also put together a band called Elf-a few other bands earlier as well, Ronnie and the Redcaps and more, but Elf really should be recognized. It fit the times so well, and there is some GREAT stuff. Listen to Never More and you will be shocked that you haven't grown up hearing it on every rock station .
As far as Slash goes, he had a band he put together called Slash's Snakepit or just Snakepit, I'm not sure. And he was with Velvet Revolver, which I think had a lot of potential and sounded great, but I don't know what happened to them. I may be missing more, I don't know.
I did see the tribute to guitarists on VH1 last night, and they chose to include Slash. The didn't show Blackmore, but they showed Slash . I don't care at all about the opinions of who puts these shows together, because it is what they concider great.
But what did impress me about Slash was that he was on stage with the likes of Eric Clapton, BB King and a bunch of others for a tribute to Les Paul. For them to pick him speaks highly of his guitar playing capabilities.
He may be a great guitar player, but IMO, shouldn't have had honor-and I hope he felt honored-to stand up there next to Ronnie James Dio.
The interesting thing is that it probably didn't bother Ronnie at all. He was probably happy and grateful and thinks both those guys are great. That's the kind of man he is .
Now if Ozzy-no offence to the Prince of Darkness, he rocked-were to have to share his induction with anyone other than his band or something, he and Sharron would be having a freaking fit.
I have a lot to learn, correct me if I am wrong on any of this stuff. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |
