Two posts in succession from me can only mean one thing - no more coursework (or too much time on my hands ). Anyway, looking through my Uni's library in the CD's section I found a Thin Lizzy compilation and it Rocks! So much so, that I have ordered a two disc best of and the live and dangerous albums and can't wait to hear them! (And to think I promised myself no more new CD's from new bands - in fact origninally no more CD's I am litterally shoehorning albums onto my shelves now in my bedroom which unfortunately isn't a tardis )
I have to say before hearing this compilation (called dedication) I was missing out on one heck of a guitarist in Gary Moore! Out in the Fields and ...Walways - awsome, along with other excellent songs from different line-ups such as Rocker, Don't Believe a Word and of course Jailbreak & The Boys are Back in Town! (Yes, when it comes to band I like, I'm very enthusiastic)
So does anyone else like Thin Lizzy? |

Thin Lizzy are Legends
"Live & Dangerous" is one of the seminal live albums of the classic British rock/metal era, along with UFOs "Strangers in the Night".
Scott Gorham and Eric Bell were the original Lizzy twin guitarists, Gary Moore had (thinks) 3 brief stints in the band and is indeed an extremely talented player.
The best studio albums IMHO would be "Jailbreak" and "Black Rose" although I do have a fondness for "Bad Reputation". If you get youself a 2CD "Best Of" & "Live and Dangerous" then you've got the bulk of the best stuff and there's probably no need to trawl the back catalogue further.
Rumour has it though that all albums are going to be remixed from the original masters as the band was never happy with the studio sound. Now THAT may prove interesting _________________ "Don't Panic...! |

Great band....my mate is the leader singer in the best Thin Lizzy tribute band in Scotland.
Only saw Thin Lizzy perform once....but that gig was amazing.

Great band.
Eric Bell was the only guitarist in the band during his time. After he quit Phil added Gorham and Brian Robertson so that if another guitarist quit he would have a spare.
Good plan as after some great albums including Jailbreak, Robertson was gone and Gary Moore rejoined. He was in the band after Bell left but didn't stay long and didn't appear on any Lizzy album until the incredible Black Rose. He had played in a pre-Lizzy band with Phil and also did some tracks with Phil in his solo band right before Phil's untimely death.
Moore didn't stick around after Black Rose and was replaced with Pink Floyd touring guitarist Snowy White for two albums. White was replaced with John Sykes ex-Tygers of Pan tang and pre-Whitesnake and pre-Blue Murder for the final Lizzy studio album and subsequent live album, both really good. |

Okay... I loved the original Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott. So last year when I hastily bought a live CD (without reading the sleeve when it was recorded), I was disappointed when I took it home and read the date: recorded in 2000. It's called " Thin Lizzy: One Night Only", and it features Scott Gorham and John Sykes. It's still in the shrink wrap, like new, never played.
So... I'm giving it away! The first truly interested TL fan to PM me gets it... free of charge! I'll pay shipping in the US only.

Last year Gary Moore released a dvd called "One Night in Dublin-A Tribute for Phil Lynott"feat. Brian Downey,Brian Robertson,Scot Gorham and Eric Bell.
It was a fantastic concert and I can recommand this dvd highly!
Specialy "Whiskey in the Jar"with Eric Bell is great! _________________ No more night-I´ve seen the light

Moonloop is right "Live & Dangerous" is a must have for any fan of Thin Lizzy....
I only saw Phil playing with John Sykes & Scot Gorham... Thunder and Lightning Tour in 1983!
Thats when Thin Lizzy experimental into some Heavy Metal songs ...I know some of the die hard fans don't regard ''Thunder and Lightning'' with the same affection as the other greats...but I love the cd,simply becoz I got see Thin Lizzy perform Thunder and Lightning,Baby Please Don't Go, This Is The One, The Holy War,The Sun Goes Down and Cold Sweat.
Its a great cd...not one song I don't like...and its was the last studio cd from them.
Any fans of the song....''Angel of Death''
Its on ''Renegade '' |

Thin Lizzy were and are a truly fantastic band. Live & Dangerous stands as one of the best live albums ever (even if it was heavily overdubbed).
Dedication was also the first album I listened to by them because my dad just kept pestering me. Thank god I gave in
Just out of interest does anyone know when the title track was recorded. Ithink it says released in 1990 but Phil Lynott was dead by then.
Tonight I'm off to see them support Deep Purple who are (not) playing Machine Head in its enireity. Quite excited because I've only heard good things about John Sykes. If I like them I'll buy One Night Only. |

Angel of Death is my altime favorite Thin Lizzy song. It is the heaviest song I have ever heard from them. Anyone who loves Metal will love this song!

alitivity .....did you ever get into Wild Horses.
Brian Robertson
(electric guitar, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, backing vocals, lead vocals on track 4, 9) 1 Reservation Bain, Robertson
Jimmy Bain
(bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, backing vocals, vocals) 2 Face down Bain, Robertson
Neil Carter
(electric guitar, lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) 3 Blackmail Bain, Robertson
Clive Edwards

You can pick it up nice and cheap on cd....in UK.
Wild Horses released two albums on EMI, Wild Horses and Stand Your Ground, before Robertson left to join Motörhead.
Bain regrouped Wild Horses as a five piece but they disbanded shortly after.
This is the Stand your Ground cd cover
Its a must buy for fans of Brian Robertson....and with 2 scots in the band of course...I was gonna get into this band
