BTW, I've been on this site for years. I have been a HUGE fan of Ronnie for 15 years now.
Most of you are referencing his performance from 2004 and before and what I'm saying is that mysteriously since 2005 (2 short years), something has further changed about his voice and ability in general. It was painful and very sad to hear Holy Diver Live. You can even tell at times that he was frustrated with himself not being able to do what HE does so well.
As for him touring with Sabbath now. I've seen EVERY live video of this tour on Youtube and to hear him singing the intro to Falling off the Edge of the World is sad. Up until 2004 he was singing so much higher. He also has to reduce the amount of fast songs they perform, because he admitted that it's too much for him nowadays. He can't keep up. He gts tired, winded and hoarse SO easily now. that is SAD to me, seeing how well and how long he peformed THAT well. I still love the man as I've said, but to see that beautuful voice of his (both angry and melodic) deteriorate is hard. It's like watching a loved one die of cancer. You don't want to remember them as they were at the end.
On a side note, Toni Iommi has improved SO much over the years. He is getting better with age. |
Well I looked it up and could only find one horrible recording of it...however, Ronnie sounds really good, IMO. I don't know if this is what you are referring to, but I have to disagree with you, respectfully of course.

Oh yeah, I hope you're referring to his 1992 version I posted on here. Incredible performance. PLLLLEEEAAASSSEEE don't tell me that he is better in 2007, than he was in 1992. PLLLEEAASE. At least watch the videos I posted. True fans will appreciate how great he truly was.

I´m shure the H&H Dvd will show how great Dio is these days!
The Holy Diver Dvd is a little raw,but I think it was not his best show.
The problem is/was that he had only ONE night and the band had troubled times.Originaly the shot was planed for the russian leg of the tour(Bigger venues?).But the bad arm of Goldie crossed the plans! _________________ No more night-I´ve seen the light

I'm not exactly sure why you seem so passionate for us to agree with you about Ronnie's voice. I do understand where you are coming from...his voice has changed and he doesn't hit the high notes like he used to...But I for one, along with a lot of other people, love his voice today as much as before...appreciate how it sounded then and how, IMO, amazing he sounds today. Sure, there are performances that are better than others and I agree that HD live is not his best, but from what I've heard from this tour, I am happy
Thanks for the videos _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

the holy diver is not ronnie at his best. but if you listen the backstage footage his voice sounds a bit rough, so my guess is that he had a slight cold or something
his voice is not what it used to be, but it's still very good
recently I listended to a bootleg from London 1998, and it was SUPERB. he wouldn't be able to do that today..but age takes its toll, no matter what.
wheter he is 65 or 67 - he's still a damn good singer |

No matter what profession somebody has, their skills will diminish as they get older. Fact of life. It must suck to be a famous person who is still doing a good job and to be subjected to everyone comparing them to an earlier era. It happened to Old Blue Eyes; it happened to Elvis; it happened to Jerry Rice; it happened to Ronald Reagan; it happened to everybody except maybe actors who find proper roles for their ages.
That's the difference between a non-famous person like me (television production) and somebody famous like Ronnie. 30 years from now when I'm Ronnie's age, I will be a little slower at the switcher. I'll have more knowledge to build things, but I'll be slower punching live shows. I'll have the luxory of not having to go to my official site and read countless opinions about how my abilities aren't what they used to be when I was 37.
I would hate to think that Ronnie would read some of the comments on here by his fans and let that influence his decision on when to retire from recording and touring. He might figure "Oh, well, even my fans think I don't have it."
That's why I think this thread is important and I thank diodreams for making it. And I think it should always be bumped higher than the threads that are critical.
So: if you still enjoy what Ronnie can do, then keep coming to this thread and let him know it. I want Ronnie to stop only when he wants to, and it seems to me he still has the fire.
========================================
Ronnie, you rock! I can't see this current tour, but I can't wait for the DVD! And I can't wait for another album, regardless of who it is with! Keep bringing the magic!
=========================================
And that's how you do it. So stand up and shout, people!

I'm very satisfied with the canadian clips. Sign of the southern cross was another highlight for me. See it on the video thread.
Of course Ronnie was in his prime20-30 years ago. I'm 90-95% satified with his voice now compared to the classic one. |

I agree 100%...well said. I read what another member had written and thought, 'oh no'...until I listened for myself and then actually said outloud..."YEAH RONNIE...WOOOOOH!!!"
I was so happy after I saw the videos from this tour...I think he sounds bitchen!!!!
Good idea to keep this thread at the top, just in case he were to pop in...We would want him to know that we think HE ROCKS!!! _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |
