I love the older Schenker stuff, and the first couple albums with Paul Chapman were also excellent. But the Walk On Water is really a very strong album (the first Schenker reunion album). Some of the heaviest and strongest melodic content of any of their albums every! I recommend it highly. There are Schenker leads there that are better than anything he's ever done. Sharks and Covenant were not as strong as that, but still pretty good.

I should check thoughs out, i've only heard three LP's and i don't even remember the names of the two i didn't dig, but Force It has always been a HUGE influence on my taste in leads, High Flyer is one i want played at my funeral. One of the ones i didn't dig they had a cover pic of them standing next to gas pumps in a gas station.

The one on the gas station was the first one without Schenker, which I actually liked pretty well. Force It is such a heavy metal classic, with so many hard rock riffs and hooks it's just ridiculous. High Flyer is just amazing, tone-wise and songwriting too. I always thought UFO had some of the smartest, leanest hard rock songs in the biz. Of course you can't do better than to just get UFO - Strangers In The Night, which is a live concert of all their best stuff up to Schenker's exit.
The first Schenker solo album was pretty damned good too, with Simon Phillips on drums. The second one with Cozy Powel was classic too.

That album had a lot of really great songwriting on it. I do love "Let It Roll" and just recorded it from my LP to my minidisc player.

Very fair comments, however Mogg's voice has vastly improved with age, and that "UFO sound" is as distinctive today as it was 30 years ago.
Vinnie Moore has stepped into, and surpassed, Schenker's shoes much in the same way "Tonka" Chapman did on "SITN"

yes , vinny moore has made some great music with UFO !!
my favorite is walk on water but these 2 with vinny are not
as good but pretty damn close !! check out his solo stuff !! 
his disc , called the maze , has some excellent guitar work !! |
