One of the best albums of the nineties, and one of Dio's finest....
Playing right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus Mary & the Holy Ghost-Not sure if this is prochristian or antichristian.....Gives that power to god but also gives that evil....
Good music though
Firehead-Another prophecy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!An excellently violent song. Feel the heat from this...Krakow! Krakow! You're all dead!!!!!!!!!!! This is one fucking strong album.
Strange Highways-Not strong enough to be the title track on an otherwise ultimate album. Dio definitely is confusing in this song...but oh well.
Hollywood Black-Let's see, Charlie Manson........Black Panthers and the Aryan Brotherhood at war.........all the things that go through my head when I hear this song. It sounds alittle like a reminisce of Wishing Well (with the Sab four)
It also points a finger at "the Beautiful People". (sorry Alice, please forgive me) It also makes a point about the album, "only fools turn back!" Which is also similar to the earlier line from Dream Evil's "All the Fool's Sailed Away" (figure it out for yourself)
Evilution-One of my most fucking favorite songs. Makes me think of the last battle. You can almost hear Satan tempting you with power. The world upstairs and Evilution company. Scary fucking song. I hate you and you hate me, so everybody smile....yeah...pure fucking power.
Pain-Bury my bones.....a good song, but it goes against my personal beliefs with the line "give me a choice between power and pain, I choose pain" any true fan worships power. So that was a problem.
One foot in the Grave- For some fucking reason, i choose the weirdest songs for my erotic songs. Don't ask me. This song is a good violent song but also makes me think about love more. Guess its the chorus....THe song is pure fucking power. Anyone who hears it will love it. Put one foot in the grave
Give her the gun-Makes me think of Coop's Only Women Bleed.
Give her the gun Lok at him run away wouldn't we all. Dio makes good social commentary here, similar to Lock Up the Wolve's "Between Two Hearts".
Blood From a Stone-The album begins to trail off here. This is an okay song, but, not spectacular.
Here's to You-Good anthem, not my favorite. Nothing compared to "I"
Bring Down the Rain-Indeed the savior of the album. Shake Up Break Up Everybody make up. Love. Hate, hope, sex, Bring it all down, Bring down the establishment. Bring down Big Brother, Bring Down Big Sister. _________________ Chase the horizons, catch the illusion
remember the child within
There's no tomorrow just sadness and sorrow
hold on to the Ancient Dreams |

| I think Jesus, Mary & The Holy Ghost is a great track. Really kickass. Strange Highways is pretty good too. After that, its all pretty forgettable. Hollywood Black is a hair better than so-so, I guess. I really don't care much for this album. It's Dio yelling instead of singing. |

All fans of Doom Metal...love this cd.
If any of Dio's work was too be classed as Doom Metal,it would be this cd..For the most part the riffs are typical slow, doom metal riffs. Even if the riffs aren't doom centered, they still have that presence of doom (evil) because the riffs are so heavy.
Also the lyrics are not Doom... but still a great cd. |

Well most my favourite great traditional Heavy Metal cds...which was on old vinyls[my old 12 inch records are in storage now]...I have replaced 95% of them with cds...but in the modern era...most of the band's cds I have and buy now are Gothic Metal,Doom Metal or Symphonic Metal, but I don't just stick to these genres all the time...from time to time...I will buy Death or Black Metal. |

I've just listened to this after quite a break. I love it. Very underated album!
Hollywood black, pain, give her the gun, blood from a stone and the title track are fantastic. _________________ Clutching to monsters in shadows, 'cos monsters always know....It's better in the dark! |

So it may be one for me to buy then? I'm not a doom fan at all really, I haven't heard much of Strange Highways or Angry Machines, but I do love Dehumanizer if that's at all similar.
The only song I've heard is Jesus, Mary and The Holy Ghost, originally I didn't like it, being into the classic Dio stuff more than anything, but it did grow on me. _________________ Rest in peace Ronnie James Dio |

I tend to find myself enjoying Strange Highways a lot, so you'll probably like that one. To me, Angry Machines is like Born Again. It's an okay album (and different), but I rarely listen to it. _________________ Black Sabbath RULES! \m/ |

"One Foot in the Grave" is my fave track on that album.
Damn if Ronnie doesn't sound pissed -the-fuck-off on that one!
I also love the way that album was recorded and mixed. A very live, dynamic BIG sound. |
