not entirely, and very, very primitive power metal, maybe lol, I lump it more with classic 70's rock tunes. _________________

I think the vocals are a definite precursor to the vocal style now associated with power metal. I think the organ, drums, and guitar on "Light in the Black" sound very Deep Purplesque.
In general, I think other songs from the Dio era of Rainbow sound like power metal because the musical instruments took on an epic quality. For example, I think the music and vocals on "Gates of Babylon" and "Stargazer" sound like the beginning of what people now call power metal.
Early Rainbow is a mixed bag because some of the songs are so powerful and majestic while others are just run of the mill rock 'n roll. _________________ "ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA" TOUR DATES: http://www.zappa.com/zpz/tourdates.html

Rainbow's Power Metal stuff are 2 things: "Rainbow Rising" CD and "Kill the King" song. _________________ "We'll know for the first time, if we are evil or divine; we're the last in line. See how we shine!!" |
