Strange highways is much more diverse and not nearly as bland as Angry machines. To be honest i listened through AM 4 times or something like that and i don't remember a how a single song sounded except for God hates heavy metal and Black.
If i were you i would go to youtube or something like that and have a few pre-listens before purchasing the album.
AM is very different compared to all other Dio alums ever released 'nuff said |

I was going to start a thread on the song Stay Out of My Mind, but saw this thread and will just add to it.
I really don't understand why so many people are down on Angry Machines. I realise I am in the minority (according to this thread) but I really like A.M.
I am a huge fan of Strange Highways, so that probably has something to do with it.
At a time when "grunge" music was "king" on the U.S charts, and established Metal bands were "softening" their sounds to appeal to the masses, Ronnie and the boys did the opposite and kept the HEAVY in METAL.
Tracy is not my favorite Dio guitarist, but (IMO) he was good for the records he was on, my complaint with him was I did not enjoy him "live", especially on the songs from the non tracy albums.
Now, back to the track....Stay out of my mind.
I don't know what it is, But I love that song!!! \m/ _________________ Give me a choice between pleasure and pain.........I choose PAIN!!! |

When I first heard Angry Machines, it gave me chills. I was a little scared of it...something about Ronnie's voice on Institutional Man really got to me.
Angry Machines is certainly not among my top favorites from DIO albums, but I enjoy it, especially when I'm in the mood for something a little, well, angry. It is not my least favorite album, either.
I like the Tracy-era stuff, but I think the style just isn't what I love to hear from the band.
Actually, Stay Out of My Mind is probably my least favorite track on the album, but I do like it. Personally, I'm a fan of Big Sister, Black, and This Is Your Life. _________________ "You'll never make me be like you. I'm Master of the Moon!" |
