Dream Theater = heavy metal jazz.

I like them a lot, but I have to be in the mood for them. Scenes From A Memory is my all-time favorite concept album.

All right-- I like Scenes From a Memory the most (do you think that nicholas was actually the Miracle?) followed by selected songs from Train of Thought--(for example I like As I Am, but I don't really like Honor Thy Father, at least the way the song is made, the words are good) Then I like Octavarium. I don't know where to rank the others.

According to the booklet accompanying the "Scenes......" cd, Senator Edward Baynes is "The Miracle" and Julian Baynes is "The Sleeper". Nicholas is just shown as being "Nicholas".

Cool

In jazz a group loses themselves to the music and spends the rest of the song trying to find their way back. I always relate Dream Theater to that, although to be fair, they have a rather eclectic mix of styles. I guess it's not fair to bottlecap them.

I think of them as heavy metal jazz just like I think of Iron Maiden as heavy metal classical music.

I'm not sure if anybody will agree with me. Embarassed

what I mean is that, at the end of Finally Free, well first off, as we all know, Nicholas is the last one to speak at the end right? and we hear him in the car, and then he goes inside and turns on the news, there is no way that he could be hearing that if he was Victoria...thats all I'm saying.

They really are. I've tried to listen to them many times, but to me Dream Theater's music is just annoying and boring so I don't care wasting my time on that band.

I can listen to bands like HammerFall and Dio (though, I don't really like the power metal-sound of HammerFall. Only GTTB and LOK), just as easy as I listen to Burzum, Mayhem, Satyricon etc.

And I still think Dream Theater is boring.

So why bother to post on this topic??? Why not stay away from it???

Surely even to you it was patently obvious thatis topic doesn't match your "taste" in music, so why waste our time and web space????

The question was "What does everyone think of Dream Theatre??"
and my opinion about the band is that it's music is boring.

I don't like the same bands as you, but I'm not telling you to like my fav. bands either, or complaining about it just because someone has a different opinion than me.
There was a question, and I answered it.
Just like everyone else.
