Does anybody listen to Blind Guardian? Please share your comments here. I don't have any of their albums, but I heard some samples of their music on some music sites. I was thinkin' about getting one of their albums, but which one should I get? But that's only secondary. This topic is mainly for discussing the band, but a couple suggestions won't hurt either. |

I think there may be a thread on them here somewhere, but I enjoy listening to them sometimes and some albums, other times just don't jive well with the music. _________________

Night at the opera yes, some from the Nightfall on Middle earth album, but I'm not a fan of the speed-metal style stuff _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

It's hard to go wrong with Blind Guardian, however their first four albums are much more speed metal-oriented than what you might have already heard of their work. 'Nightfall In Middle-Earth' and 'Imaginations From the Other Side' are definitely their best power metal albums. 'Night at the Opera' is very epic-sounding, and 'A Twist In the Myth' (their most recent) is similar to ANATO, but punchier. 'Somwhere Far Beyond' is kind of like epic speed metal meets power metal, and has some classic tracks. Their first three albums (Batallions of Fear, Follow the Blind & Tales From the Twilight Hall) aren't bad, but they're not as awesome as the five I listed above.
As you probably can tell, Blind Guardian is one of my favorite bands. Hansi Kursch, the singer, has a very unique voice that's well suited for metal. Fans of BG sincerely think he's better than Dio. Though I don't agree, you've got to give credit to originality in a genre of music where singers try to sound like other singers (how many power metal bands with Michael Kiske clones are there?).
Get 'Nightfall In Middle-Earth' first. It's probably the best introduction to them. _________________ Weird thoughts that don't work,

Kurch does have an amazing, listen to his cover of "Don't Talk to Stangers"! possibly better than the original except he can't hit all the low notes, but still one damn good cover!
I have to say "Twist in the Myth" is their best album, tho the parts of "Nightfall" that are actually songs are great.
Haven't gotten into the older stuff as much, sometimes I can't stand his voice from back then. Kinda grates on me. _________________

| twist in the myth is great, although i like nightfall and imaginations more, BG is a great band, and Hansi is indeed a wonderful singer, with a very unique voice. |

Speed Metal, Power Meal, Epic. whatever, ALL their stuff is brilliant. been grinding out Nightfall in Middle Earth most of all recently.
I much prefer Gamma Ray as Kai Hansen's voice is just better suited for the label of pure power metal but the speed and thrash metal that comes into play in BG's earlier stuff, god damn!!!!! WoW |
