Someone said that they would rather have a new Dio album than the H&H tour because we may miss getting a new masterpiece, or something like that....MOTM is the last album they put out and I think it is one of the best, so I would love to hear what they would put out now.

For the following albums, please name what you all concider the "masterpiece." You can name 2 if needed...I've named mine, or at least what I've heard. I still have some catching up to do. I don't have all of these, so my list will grow.

Elf
Trying to Burn the Sun-When She Smiles
Carolina County Ball-CCB, Happy
Elf-Never More

Rainbow
Rainbow Rising-MOTSM
RB's Rainbow
LLR&R-LLR&R

Black Sabbath
H&H-all of it
Mob Rules-all of it, especially Country Girl, SOTSC and Voodoo.

MOTM-One More for the Road
Killing the Dragon ?
Magica-As Long as it's not about love
Last in Line-Mystery
Sacred Heart-SH
LOTW?
Angry Machines-this is your life
Strange Highways?
Dream Evil-DE-woops, forgot All the Fools Sailed Away...how could I do that???
Holy Diver-DTTS, Shame on the night

I'm probably missing some...educate me... Embarassed

The song MOTSM is from the first album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. It's not on Rising...

I guess I'll make picks while I'm here.

Elf - no masterpieces on any Elf album.

Rainbow - MOTSM, Catch The Rainbow
Rising - Tarot Woman, Stargazer
LLRNR - Gates Of Babylon, Kill The King

H&H - Heaven & Hell, Children Of The Sea
Mob Rules - Mob Rules, Counry Girl
Dehumanizer - After All

Holy Diver - Don't Talk To Strangers, Shame On The Night
LIL - We Rock, Last in Line
Sacred Heart - good songs, no masterpieces
Dream Evil - no masterpieces
LUTW - My Eyes, Lock Up The Wolves
Angry Machines - nada!
Strange Highways - zilch!
Magica - good songs, no masterpieces
KTD - Killing The Dragon
MOTM - none.

And I have to name on live masterpiece, and that is Still I'm Sad from Rainbow's "On Stage". The live version with lyrics (as opposed to the instrumental original) is amazing, and Ronnie gives one of his best ever vocal performances. The way he finishes the song off is stunning!

I agree that the song Sacred Heart is not a masterpiece.
You don't like One More For the Road?? God that's a great song.

Bildo, have you heard Never More by Elf?? I wonder why in the hell that isn't a huge classic rock hit. It is amazing.

So I guess not every album has a "masterpiece."

I was saying the Sacred Heart album had no masterpieces. I wasn't talking about the song, which I don't like at all.

I DO like One More For The Road. But I'm not willing to throw the term "masterpiece" on to every decent song. Nobody will remember anything from MOTM years after Ronnie is dead and gone. People will remember Stargazer and The Last In Line and Heaven & Hell. Those are masterpieces.

I tried it, but I can't do it.
an album like magica is too good to chose a masterpiece from. the whole album is a masterpiece.
There are some albums where I can name one or two songs that are the masterpieces, but most albums have more favorites then one or two.

These are the albums from where I can could choose one or two favorites of mine:
Killing The Dragon - Throw Away Children
Sacred Heart - Sacred Heart
Long Live Rock 'n Roll - gates Of Babylon, kill the king
Rainbow Rising: Stargazer
Heaven And Hell: Heaven And Hell

For the rest, there are some albums that have too many favorites to mention, and an album like angry mahcines doesn't have a real masterpiece at all.

I'm surprised you chose "Throw Away Children", to me that is the weakest song on KTD!

Nice list Very Happy .

I feel like such a dork...I picked Dream Evil because I just got that CD and there was so much snow on my satalite that my computer was giving me hell. Everytime I tried to look at itunes, I would get dumped off of this site. All the Fools Sailed Away is fabulous. And for picking mystery, I actually need to re-purchase LIL and listen to it again.

I actually really love One More for the Road. I'll remember it for sure..

Yeah, I think that one is pretty awful. Same with Mystery. Can't imagine how that one got named a masterpiece.

How can you say that Throw Away children is awful? I understand that you don't like mystery, I also don't like that one, but Throw away children is so beautiful!

are there any people that feel the same way about it?
