From what I've already heard (youtube.com), the newest Coverdale's output is a classy one indeed. It has the power, has melodies, has some raw feeling to it all as well. Think I'm gonna buy it this week.
The only sad thing is to hear DC (aged 57) almost manically forcing himself to sound like Robert Plant in his twenties. WHY, DAVID, WHY???
I don't know what happened to DC over the years. He was a fine blues rock singer with a strong and powerful delivery. And then when he got older he decided to alter his natural way of singing. In comes the higher register, all those Plant-like wails and stuff. He never was the second coming of a young Plant, but he sounded really good on C/P album in 1993.
Sadly, he's been fading with his vocals ever since. Did you get to hear Whitesnake live in 2008? Search the youtube sources. David is just so much disappointing. He screams rather than sings. He just can't raise his voice, can't hit any high note. The audience does it instead! He sounds totally flat.
HolyMagica once wrote that David lost it. Well. I'm afraid Holy was right.
PS: Don't get me wrong, I wasn't intending to criticise David as he remains one of my all time faves. Much as GTBB may become a hell of an album, Coverdale just doesn't sound convincing anymore. At least to me. |

I've seen Whitesnake on the GMM (Graspop Metal Festival) in Belgium, and Whitesnake was GREAT !! Dough Aldrich was very very good! He loved playing gitar! Whitesnake was even much better than Judas Priest (later that evening) _________________ Stargazer! |

I know how you feel....I have been going to see Whitesnake since I was 13 years old,1979 was my first concert,it breaks my heart that the band is nothing like the band I have known through the years...and David Coverdale just can't do it live on stage anymore...he will always be a great showman but its murder listening to him screaming and shouting...thats not singing
I made myself a promise...I would never see Whitesnake perform again,I think Marsden and Moody returning would make me change my mind but thats never gonna happen
Of course I am a fan of the old classic Whitesnake and Bernie Marsden and its really hard for me to enjoy the current Whitesnake line up becoz its not the Whitesnake I like but fair play to you new fans out there if you think they are good now....they where 10 times better in the 80s |

you're right! But Dio wasn't on Graspop this year and I am a great fan of Deep Purple, Rainbow (RIP),Whitsnake, Black Sabbath, H&H, and DIO is still the best singer I ever heard. I saw Dough Aldrich with Dio some years ago, and the played perfect together. So now we went to Graspop to see Doughy! I even received a plectrum from him!!! We only can hope tha Dio comes to Belgium again very very soon!!!! _________________ Stargazer! |

Hello my fellow Scottish Friend - long time no speak!!?? I have been away from the forum recently but had to come back on to speak about my recent Whitesnake/Def Leppard experience at the Glasgow SECC.
Having seen Whitesnake at the Carling in 2006 when Coverdale's voice was fantastic a la the 2004 dvd i could not wait to see them last month BUT i have to say that they were TERRIBLE - Coverdale's voice was totally gone, he was screaming and i have to say, out of tune at times - he left some of the vocals to either his backing band or the crowd. It was such a pity because the whole venue was so up for it - here was 7-8,000 waiting for a classic performacne but what we got was 80 minutes of drum solos, guitar solos, acoustic versions, FIVE, and i mean 5 new songs - it was only in the last 20 mins that it really got going - by that time i had gvien up, he was DIRE - dont get me wrong, he still did the whole showman bit but the sad thing is that i dont think he realised that he is a parody, a shadow of his former self. When you said many posts ago that he was finished, i didnt believe it - I DO NOW. |

evildream...Hey Jimmy
Hell I took no pleasure in telling you how bad his voice is now....I just want to forget about it...really and just remember the concerts DC was good
Becoz there was many
Only a Marsden and Moody reunion would get me back to the concerts or maybe DC doing a tour with just acoustic versions of his songs...the man is a great showman...one of the best out there and he works his ass of on stage but screaming and shouting is not the DC I want to remember.
I am a Whitesnake fan...have been since I was 13 years old and will always have lots of affection for their music but as the years have went on...I have become more and more disappointed not just with the singing but also the way the band has changed so much...its no secret I rate Bernie Marsden as one of my favourite Guitarist players and without him in the band...they have lost something.
So how are you doing my friend....?
If I remember right are you in Dundee |

yes, i am from dundee. Havent been to much recently - saw H & Hell then Whitesnake/Def Leppard, might go and see the Motorhead/Saxon gig but will definitely be going to Wishbone Ash in October. Had a ticket for Malmsteen but didnt go.
I have a mate who listens a lot to M3 Moody and Marsden (or it may be Company of Snakes) he prefers the older stuff as well. |

Ok people Whitesnake appeared in Cyprus last night, a concert that many people were expecting. A full stadium was waiting them to come on stage, even though only Coverdale left from the original band.
I was largely disappointed by their sound and especially by Coverdale. Honestly guys he was awful. Most of the people enjoyed the concert but this is because we do not have any metal concerts in Cyprus, apart from Scorpions that came twice.
I think most of the people that really listen to rock and metal were expecting much more from Coverdale. My god, the first 3 songs i was not sure if he was really singing or if it was a playback, but if it was playback it would sound good.
The best on stage was Doug Aldrich and i am not saying it because he was with DIO, he was excellent. Also the drummer was very very good.
Some people said that, "ok guys he is old" , so what ? DIO is old but he sings his ass off and also Meine when Scorpions came here was excellent.
This was my worst concert, so disappointed by Coverdale _________________ Video games are bad for you? That what they said about Rock 'n' Roll... |

panayiotis...Sorry to hear that but I have been saying it for a while now that DC is finished as a live performer.
Folks don't waste your money on a ticket...if you have seen Whitesnake in the past hold on to those memories becoz you are gonna be saddened and disappointed of what you hear now
panayiotis I don't think it would have been playback...I just can't see DC ever doing that for a concert |
