Ritchie Blackmore has been known worldwide for his guitar shredding in DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW. He has also shown hints of his penchant for medieval music in both of those bands. That 18th and 19th century love, though, has only truly come to the fore within the acoustic context of his renaissance rock project, BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. The seven-piece band, featuring the airy vocals of his lovely fiancée, Candice Night, who has been compared to Stevie Nicks and Karen Carpenter, has been an ongoing passion of the guitarist since 1997. On November 7, Locomotive Records will release a very special holiday album, "Winter Carols".
"The holiday season has always embodied joy, love, peace and togetherness," says Candice. "We are entranced by the magic of the season. The sentiments of the holidays are what we try to express in our music year round so this CD is a natural progression. All the music we craft and create has always been about love, unity and friendship. These songs as a whole are beautiful unifying carols. Feel the warmth of friendship! Everyone can join in."
"The origin of the word 'carol' means dance," adds Ritchie. "I am naturally attracted to these melodies. As a kid, I would go from house to house during the holiday time and sing them just to earn some money. As an adult, I thought I could play them and make more money!"
"Winter Carols" track listing:
01. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing/Come All Ye Faithful
02. I Saw Three Ships
03. Winter (Basse Dance)
04. Ding Dong Merrily On High
05. Ma-O-Tzur
06. Good King Wenceslas
07. Lord Of The Dance/Simple Gifts
08. We Three Kings
09. Wish You Were Here
10. Emmanuel
11. Christmas Eve
12. We Wish You A Merry Christmas

BLACKMORE'S NIGHT's holiday album, "Winter Carols", has entered Billboard's New Age album chart at position No. 7.

Thank you a lot, this link is so cool!!!!!!!
At the moment, my favourite bands ever are (at the same position):
DIO, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Blackmore's Night, so Ritchie's interviews are among the most interesting interviews (according to me)!!!
BTW, in Italy, listening to the radio mentioning Ritchie Blackmore and, also if only for a little moment, Ronnie James Dio, is HIGHLY RARE!
Thanks again
Magic!

That's the most difficult question you could ask me...
Well, I love all their album, they are all great, if you haven't got any album by them start with the first one, "Shadow Of The Moon", not because is the best (infact they are all wonderful and magic) but because it's the first one... after listening to it, if you like 'em, go on buying the other albums by them ("Under A Violet Moon", "Fires At Midnight", "Past Times With Good Company" - a double live album -, "Ghost Of A Rose", "Village Lantern", "Winter Carols").
There's a great double DVD too called "Castles and Dreams", one of my favourite DVDs ever, and there's a beautiful greatist hits called "Beyond The Sunset - The Romantic Collection -" that includes, over the CD with their best songs, another CD called "Christmas Eve" which contains three beautiful Christmas songs played by them and a DVD with a few songs from a concert in Germany, at the moment I can't remember the village in which they recorded that mini-DVD...
So, if you prefer, you can start with this best of too
See ya soon,
Magic!

I'd have to say "Fires at Midnight" is my favorite album, and gets the most plays by me. _________________

I've just listened to "Winter Carols", it's a great album!!! I suggest everyone who likes Blackmore's Night buying it, you'll like it (I hope!)!
Most part of songs are cover of famous Christmas songs (for example "All Come Ye Faithful" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas") arrenged by them, AWESOME!
Magic!
Mario
We'll raise a glass, maybe two
And we'll be thinking of you
Until our paths cross again... maybe next time...

Are they all very well-known Christmas songs? I don't wish to be a killjoy - but most Christmas songs I hate. I only like Slade's. The rest are mostly awful. I heard a sample on their website and it didn't sound much different and I wasn't too keen - what's it like? I mean, do they put a renaissance slant on the songs? _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Yes they did!!! Well, if you don't like Christmas songs this album isn't so suitable for you
Anyway, they put a lot of "renaissance music" into these Christmas songs... go to their myspace pages and listen a couple of their songs from "Winter Carols" (also if "Christmas Eve", "Emanuel", "We Three Kings" and "Wish You Were Here" were already on other Blackmore's Night released) -
