I just ordered Black Rain and the covers album without hearing any samples off of either one of them. Me am in the mood for some Ozzy! _________________ Sit on it, Potsie. |

Sadly I must say, as agreat fan of Ozzy, that I'm quite dissapointed with this album
There are some great riffs, but they end pretty quick and the songs get boring And just in how many songs he will be singing that he's the old rocker and he don't wanna stop, couse' it get's him through. It's quite annoying.
As for now I don't find this CD very good. The past ones are simply better. _________________ They say that life's a carousel

What?!
It's great! It sounds much more mature and varied than anything else he's put out. Best since No More Tears - and in fact I only really like the 1st half of that album, so it's better than No More Tears, in my opinion. Plus he sounds great on this one! I finished listening and I was grinning and thought wow!
The ballads on Black Rain are the best he's ever written, and so melodic and full sounding. _________________ Along Came A Spider.....

Perhaps. That was after one listen - I hope repeated listens don't 'close' mine! _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

So the song ''God Bless The Almighty Dollar '' is that a ballad for Sharon
Reading reviews...I hear there is a lot of effects on his voice to hide its imperfections...also read there is alot of annoying squeals from Ozzy as well. |

His voice almost sounds computerized.......but the album is pretty good. Haven't bought it though......I'm just being a tight-ass and listening to the free-streaming |

There are effects on some songs, but rarely all the way through - just on certain parts. And he is singing MUCH MUCH more clearly now. You don't need the booklet to hear the words. And he's hitting notes much higher than he has in ages - both with and without the effects. The effects may not be there to hide imperfections. Of course, everyone will jump and say they are. Maybe they are, but I'm not convinced that's the sole reason. Just listen to the ballads, which are clean, epecially Here For You - he sounds good.
I think this album will be on the recieving end of a lot of flak, becaise it is Ozzy. It has become cool to slag him off, and I'm sure there are people who will not want to admit Ozzy can still do a good album. Their loss. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Only had a quick listen to a souple of tracks as I only bought it last night but from what I've heard it sounds a heck of a lot better than anything he's put out since ultimate cin/no rest (don't really like No More Tears). I mean Down To Earth was OK but didn't feel like an "Ozzy" album to me.
The songs seem to cover a bleaker range of subjects, heading in almost Sabbath vibe in places topically and in some of the lyrics (particularly with the title track if memory serves) which is definitely a step forward and offers a bridge to a compromise appeasing the narrowminded sabbath ain't sabbath without ozzy fans whilst the Dio-Era fans are in heaven with the current Heaven and Hell tour.
I'd rather see Ozzy put out another solo album like this (again based on what I've heard) and leave the rest of Sabbath to do another album with Dio at the helm - which gives fans the best of both worlds.
One last closer, although I do need to listen to the disc more, from what I've heard Ozzy does sound pretty good and if the rumour of this being the first album he has made sober is true, lets hope he can keep it up. After a limited listen I'd give it 8/10 pending further listens. |

Listened to 3 more times and I definitely like it - better than anything since Ultimate Sin/No Rest. Zakks Pinch Harmonics are starting to irritate now - theres more here than on a BLS album. I do like Zakk and BLS/Pride & Glory but to quote a suitable Ozzy song "overkill, enough is enough".
The 2 ballads on the album aren't as bad as I was expecting and are far better than Dreamer.
My fave songs have to be Bless the Almighty Dollar (ode to Sharon - thanks HM ), Trap Door and Not Going Away. Judging by opinion here I also have the "guilty pleasure" of liking I don't wanna stop.
Defintely an improvement from Ozzy and 8/10 but for me it doesn't measure up to Tony Martin's Scream album, Iommis Fused album or the three new Dio/Sabbath tracks. But still, a strong effort from the clown prince of darkness. |
