Well, the original Sabbath is the most important band in the history of metal. They did 8 albums to 3 Ronnie-Rainbow albums. Rising is an all time classic, but 6 of the 8 Ozzy Sabbath albums are also all time classics.
Sabbath takes it. Easily.

| Not the best poll to put on here, seeing how this is a ronnie james dio site. The original sabbath were the godfathers of heavy metal, no doubt. Although i like the Rainbow music more, i have to give it to the original Sabbath, just because they basically invented the heavy metal genre. |

Sorry, I can't agree with your comment about Sabbath "inventing" the HM genre. They were certainly pioneers of the genre, there were plenty of other bands around at the time that helped towards the birth of heavy metal.
That being said, I agree, the original Sabbath were far better than the original Rainbow. The fact that these two original line-ups were some 6 years apart has nothing to do with my point of view. _________________ Sick of all of this

| Sentinel - Heavy metal music as a genre was contributed to by many bands, yes. However, if you're going to give the credit to only one band, Sabbath is the best choice. Of all the contributors, they are the most important and most significant. |

I don't know what a slanging match is. But look, this forum is for discussion. I'm not going to yell at you if you disagree. What single band do YOU believe is the most important in the creation of or development of heavy metal music? |

The phrase "Heavy Metal" was coined by the music press in the early/mid '70s and was used to describe the music played by bands such as Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Argent, Steppenwolf, Hawkwind and of course Black Sabbath to name but a few.
To say that Black Sabbath "invented" the genre is well wide of the mark. _________________ I don't think we let you down

| Sentinel - If you're still out there, I'm curious to hear what one band you think is most important in the creation of heavy metal. If not Sabbath, who? |
