HM,
I'm glad you clarified that not all Americans are as "close-minded" as Bobby. I happen to love Black Metal. And I like alot of Death Metal. While I could agree that most Death Metal vocalists are not the greatest "singers" in the world, a lot of them do a great job in what they do.
As far as not being able to carry a melody in a solo, death metal guitarists are some of most talented guitarists out there. They mix blazing speed with technical prowess that hasn't been seen in a ling time.
I've always thought of Death/Black Metal as the Classical Music of our time. Remember, Beethoven's music was hated back in his day by the mainstream. _________________ Sit Down Honey....Everything will be alright. |

I know many Americans...love this music...thats why I said open minded...becoz Devin would have skinned me alive
I am more into Doom Metal myself...but do like some Black Metal.
Thats the key word here...mainstream, its not death/black/doom metal if its mainstream....thats why so many folks who are fans of this genre hate Cradle of Filth becoz they are now mainstream. |

...YOU are mistaken HM...My dislike for this Genre has NOTHING to do with my age...My best friend likes Sepultura & Deicide...How long have they been around???...since we were in our early twenties anyway... ... & I dont like these either!...The motives behind my comments regarding this Topic are NO different than the reasoning behind why I cannot tolerate Cuntry music... ...as the "majority" of this genre simply lacks any musical substance or talent!...You were also in-correct when you stated that others have not participated in criticizing bands that I listen to...such as when Sentinel refered to WASP as utter Crap...or PainMachine's comments regarding Alice Cooper!... ...you did Not interfere then...I think you would understand the sentiment behind my statements here if you actually understood how to play an instrument...because the majority of Death Metal does NOT take much effort in that regard!... ...Anyway...like I said...when you produce something to refute these comments, I am willing to listen...so therefore I am NOT being close minded... ...this post is not intended to belittle others musical tastes...but to make them aware of what they are listening to...which is musicians who have not taken the time to learn their craft...or in the case of Death Metal vocalists...that just cannot sing... ...they simply "Grunt"... ...Shit or get off the Commode already!... ...so once again...forgive me for the intrusion on this thread...I have had my say & will not interupt again unless addressed here...& as for the other members who disagree & enjoy this Rackett...Dont worry, your in the Right place...Turn up the DIO & you'll be AllRite!... |

Bobby....I don't like Deicide or Sepultura...I would say Sepultura was Death Metal maybe in their early days, they are more Groove/Hardcore Metal now,Sentinel and Painmachine..have made there comments...but you don't see them posting everytime someone updates the topic or adds to it..they don't like it so they stay away from it..Bobby you have been posting in this topic since it started.I can't believe you said

| '' if you actually understood how to play an instrument...because the majority of Death Metal does NOT take much effort in that regard'' |
So if you are not playing musical instruments you can't understand the music..thats rubbish...Bobby I studied music at school for 4 years playing a whole range of instruments, but the exam is not about playing as well...its about rules and techniques, history, principles than actual playing, the music exam was practice and methods...singing is also a musical instrument..now I don't know if you know the education system over here in Scotland, but the standards are very high and when I was it school, they where one of the highest standards of education in whole of Europe..I took 'O' grade music..for 4 years and passed my exam with a B...which meant...I was above the average,I played classical guitar, piano and the flute...but I lacked the discipline you have as child to go on with it [also being a father at 16 meant that bring home a pay packet was more important than jamming with the lads]...if there is a piano around..I can play a few opening lines of song...no problem or read the music from a sheet...but that was over 25 years ago.so your argument that you must be able to play an instrument is rubbish.Bobby music is about emotions and feelings...its a personal thing to the listener.. there is no such thing as perfection in music..only the individual can decide what is perfection becoz its a personal thing...its what the music does for that one person...we all listen to Dio...but what you hear is different from what I hear...we are all like that...we all know the words to the song and pattern of beats in music...but we all hear something different...our brain and heart deciphers the music all different. Now regarding the genre of Black/Death/Doom Metal....firstly your religious beliefs are gonna play a part in what you decide is acceptable in music...so right away you have closed your mind...becoz you are stained with that in your soul...thats cool. But the difference with you and I is..I can listen to say Gretchen...who are Christian rockers and get something from there music...becoz I am open minded and understand where they are coming from, you see becoz of your religious beliefs you refuse to understand this with lets say Doom Metal ...and lets talk about one of my favourite bands from that genre...''Draconian''....there music is about many things...and not just anti-religion..its about huge battles in Heaven, its about death, depression, love,
unfortunate events and experiences that all cause sorrow, maybe I like it becoz...I can remember times when all of these things were part of my life...the death of my father, mother, friends and my wife having a miscarriage at 6 months...you see Bobby its all personal the music...its really does help...I can't find the answers for all these things in your religious beliefs..but I can listen to the music...and it helps becoz with this band ''Draconian'' there is hope and a new day.Their music is not just about a ''grunt''I am not talking about other bands..becoz...as I said...there is many that can't touch me or reach me...with their message or music...but ''Draconian'' can..I find their music emotional and filled with sadness but then Lisa the other vocalist will come in with her vocals and lift you and take you to the good places in your heart...its hard to explain but as I said music is a personal thing...and what you hear will always be different from what I hear...also may add that with this band there riffs and solos are metal there music if anything is like early Black Sabbath slow tempo..but then changing etc all the time...its a rollercoaster ride.
With Death Metal....you got to understand this music can't be in the charts or in everybody's home...Its heritage is equal parts neoclassical heavy metal from the 1970s and hardcore punk from the early 1980s,Death Metal most of the time was underground...you could not buy it in your local record shop...its not mainstream...Death Metal has to avoid being tainted by "commercial" or "mainstream" music.
| Quote: |
The history of rock music has been written by commercial promoters who have tried to establish its "authenticity" and uniqueness, and therefore, almost all mainstream publications are hostile to death metal. Death metal reminds us that rock music, blues and jazz did not arise autonomously in America, but were based on centuries of European popular music (the I-IV-V chord structure of the blues is derived from European folk music, and its "blues scale" is a modification of Asian and Celtic scales). Rock music is a scam, and its marketing makes it seem to be something greater than what it is, which is the same old music dressed up as a product. Death metal more than any genre before it broke from the rock tradition, and therefore is a threat to the rock establishment and its profits.
Like most musical genres in the modern time, death metal is constantly under assault not only from external interests, but from within, as self-interested people try to make rock music and dress it up as death metal. These attempts to simplify the genre would benefit those who attempt them, as they would both be able to make a saleable product (being similar to established musical tastes, it sells easily and broadly) and be able to claim the "authenticity" of belonging to an outsider form of art such as death metal. These false death metal bands have polluted the genre with the same mainstream dogma and musicality that death metal sought to escape. Like all human social breakdown, this breakdown occurs through the selfishness of individuals who are unwilling to admit that the health of the genre is more important than their personal profit. |
Thats Death Metal....thats why it must remain underground...its not about making money.Black Metal is just a subgenre that uses keyboards and is more melodic.
Maybe you shoud go out and buy some Draconian or My Dying Bride
2 of the best in Doom Metal if you ask me!
Now did I not say you was banned from this topic

... ...Well I certainly do not want you to go Bald HM... ...so for you I will give this Draconian a "serious listen"...I would also like to hear some of these "Death" Guitarists which are reputed to be the best at what they do...& I would like to see some links to some samples of their works... ...I tell ya though...being a fan of Ronnie James Dio...I have to disagree with your "No perfection" assessment of music... ...& being accustomed to this perfection...I dont have any expectations of EVER being able to accept these kind of vocals...Not to mention the senseless lyrics that they spew forth...This will just never make sense to me...& this Black Metal has prompted these so called artists & their "followers" to actually KILL EACHOTHER!...now there is some Fun for ya!... ...anyway...You Have a good day Gary...I gotta go to work...so you have All day to post something that will dis-prove my outlook on this Genre, if you would like...as I said, I would Love to hear something that actually suprises me... |

That music isn't my cup of tea either, but personal taste is personal taste. I just don't see how anybody can argue the merits of a genre of music that they don't care for. Just state the reasons why YOU don't like it; don't give reasons why everybody else is wrong for liking it. You catch more flies with honey you know. If you want to make converts, be respectful. Otherwise, you are just driving people farther away from your point of view. What death metal sounds like to me is what hard rock sounds like to my parents. I'm going to be more respectful about others' tastes than my parents were. (Although to be fair, they did let us kids listen to what we wanted. They didn't censor- they just lambasted it.) _________________ Sit on it, Potsie. |

I filled your email with tracks ...had trouble with the ''epics'' some of the tracks are like 15 mins long...but I think you will be suprised...sent stuff from their 3 cds..also sent you all the lyrics in email as well
Regarding ''Killing'' in Black Metal...I don't understand it myself...I know theres been deaths in Italy and Norway...I don't know the full story or whats its all about...I mean its just music...why should anyone have to die |

Amon Amarth has a new music video out...
Runes To My Memory
http://youtube.com/watch?v=JFq2YJKYa-k
Very great video/song. The lyrics are truly amazing.
Here I lie on the river bank
A long long way from home
Life is pouring out of me
Soon I will be gone
I tilt my head, to the side
And think of those back home
I see the river rushing by
The blood runs from my wound
Here I lie, on wet sand
I will not make it home
I clench my sword in my hand
Say farewell to those I love _________________ you put your hope into the sky
for your souls salvation
I put my hope into the fire
for my soul damnation |
