Let me get this straight. You prefer the Tracy G garbage over Sacred Heart Question ??!!

Two different albums, two different sounds, two different styles. And, please, don't call an album "garbage" just because you don't like it. As Rhino wrote, he wasn't exactly into the cheesy tunes of the 80's, and that's it.

Is DIO going to perform anything from the Tracy G albums anytime soon? I think not.

Thanks Brollachan for backing me in my absence. Smile

KTK: Last time I checked. I'm ALLOWED my opinion. And just because Ronnie dislikes his own work doesn't mean I can't like it, nor does it mean it's crap. Did you know Alexander Graham Bell hated his own invention?

What it comes down to is this: I can enjoy more Dio albums than you. I only dislike ONE album. How about you? Wink

You are entitled to your opinion. That's cool that you like the Tracy G albums. I was just wondering why you like those albums but dislike Sacred Heart which has more of the classic DIO sound to it.

yes actually I do..!!..when higways was released there was so much of the rubbish grunge about, that Ronnie decided to put out an album of how 'heavy metal' should sound like..heavy and powerful..and that is what highways is..!...Sacred heart is too soft for me and 'hungry for heaven'..I hate it..!!.. a bad attempt ny ronnie to release a 'single'.

Sacred Heart is definitely weaker than the first two albums, and consequently, the two albums that followed after, but it doesn't mean it's bad. It's just got a much 'lighter' approach but still retains classic Dio. I love the songs Sacred Heart, Rock N' Roll Children, Hungry for Heaven and Fallen Angels. There was a definite over-abundance of keyboards though, which is no bad thing but it did 'cheese' many tracks in a poor way.

The Tracy G era is bollocks. Poor song-writing and forgettable riffs. Just a desperate attempt to stretch out the god-like Dehumanizer. Thank god Goldy returned in time for Magica, now THAT is an album!!!

To be honest, I think the most underrated album is Lock Up The Wolves. It's such a gem of an LP Smile

So what you're saying is that a person regarding himself as a hardcore Dio fan can act as an ultimate censor office which is entitled to call any given Dio album CRAP.

In fact people have their opinions. And these opinions are different depending on your mood, health, mental attitude and thousands of other factors. Two years ago I rated Sacred Heart as the least interesting Ronnie's album. Right now I still think it's not as strong an effort as MOTM or DE. But at least I give this album a chance: it spins in my CD player on a regular basis.

Angry Machines and Strange Highways are better than most people think. But this is just my opinion, and you are entitled to have your own. That's OK with me. But your attitude seems a bit unfair to people who happen to think that the albums from the early 90s are in fact worth listening to.

Some people on this forum say that whatever Ronnie recorded is untouchable, perfect, and one should not view his discography with a critical eye. On the other hand, there are certain fans who would put AM and SH straight to WC. These albums are - they claim - just as shitty as they only can be. And who the **** is Tracy G? I can give you the anwer: he's just a guitar player who wanted to give his touch to the old Blackmore and Iommi stuff. What's wrong about that, huh? When Plant plays WLL live in 2006, I can guarantee that the solo performed by Justin Adams is different from the original one played by Page back in 1969. Different on purpose. And what about Airey playing Lord? Same thing.

Whether you like it or not: degustibus non est disputantum. Think I'm gonna play Angry MACHINES right now. My stomach wants to have fun.

Strange highways to me is a damn good HEAVY METAL ALBUM..the important word here is HEAVY..It is a lot heavier than most DIO albums and this is what a lot od fans don't like, to me it shows how talented ronnie is.........a song like 'EVOLUTION' on highways is a great example of a hard, heavy, dark metal song.

Very well said, Brollachan!

And I agree with you Stargazer. Someone once said that the arrangements on the songs from AM were "difficult". But it IS a testament to RJD's talent to be able to still dominate those "difficult" tracks.

Besides, the genre is called HEAVY Metal. And that's how I like mine. HEEEEEEEAAAAVVYY!.

Electronic-sounding keyboards (from the 80s) seem to soften hard-edged rock. I am no fan of Bon Jovi. I think the industry at that time put pressure on all their acts to get more of that pop keyboard sound. We can thank the New Wave for that. Sad If keyboards can't have more of a classic sound, then they have no business in HEAVY Metal, IMHO.

Incidentally, I reinstalled Sacred Heart back into my iTunes library, and have fiddled with the EQ until I got a "heavier" sound on it. I can honestly say that I can listen to Sacred Heart now and appreciate the great songs they are. Ronnie's vocals are amazing as usual. But I'd still like to change those keyboards for sure.

Thanx, Rhino for kind words. Over the years I have learned that in music there are no absolutes, although the greatest thing about creating (and listening to music as well) is trying to pursue them. And doing it as hard as one is able to. In other words, some DIOHEADS should really loosen up a bit with their judgement. And take it easy.

Sacred Heart is a child of its time. Every Dio album truthfully mirrors the moods and feelings at the time they wrote and recorded it which is why these records are all so different and yet so authentic. Ronnie often stated in interviews that he uses each studio record as a vehicle to get him where his heart is: on stage. 'Sacred Heart inspired a stage show unlike any other before or since' (quote from the Dream Evil Tour Book). Well... then he certainly achieved his goal with this one. When I first listened to it, I found it a bit poppy for Dio standards, still it has that special feel that is right for its time, and I've come to like it a lot. It's a truly genuine album.
