I just got this new phone and my ring tone is Last in Line-the actual song with Ronnies voice and everything. It is so cool. But what I want to know is why are the so many people who concider themselves hard rock fans but don't know who Dio is?
I will mention Dio for some reason and whoever will say, "who's that?" I ask, "you've never heard of Ronnie James Dio?" "No" is thier reply 9 times out of 10.
So then I feel the need to educate. "Have you heard of Black Sabbath?" They always assume that means Ozzy. So I give them an ecucation about black sabbath, and who Dio is and what he has done.
Like on VH1, they did this history of metal thing and I watched the whole thing saying "They better show Dio". They gave him about 15 seconds at the end and it was about how he started the hand sign, not about his music.
Anyone else experience this?
Here are a couple more pix. Notice the "love you" part..What a sweetie.

| I couldn't agree more. For instance, the other day, I picked up Holy Diver Live (saw it, loved it) anyway, I was talking about heavy metal and mentioned Dio and the kid looked at me like the way a goat does a new fence. So I asked if he knew Black Sabbath, and he did, and I told him after Ozzy let Dio came. He replied that with; "Oh I don't listen to any other Sabbath stuff, just Ozzy". I almost felt sick to my stomach. That was only one time, there has been numerious instances where this has happened and I get so tired of explaining who Ronnie James Dio, the "King of Rock and Roll" (no pun intended) is. I just wish people would get smarter or pretend like they know-I get tired of explaining. |

I experiance shit like this way too fucking often. I've had people ask me what I was listening to and I'd say Dio, then they're all, "Who is that"? Fucking ridiculous. Or sometimes I'd be listening to a Sabbath album with Ronnie on it. Again, they'd ask what I was listening to. I would of course say Black Sabbath, then they'd say "Yeah, Ozzy!" I personally think that if you don't know who RJD is, you have no idea what metal is. |

It's like a secret club knowing Dio. I loke that. I personally couldn't care less whether others know who it is when I tell them what I'm listening to. All I ask is that they give it a listen, if they like it great, if not fair enough.
It is the 'secret club' aspect which leads to such hardcore fans at the concerts. I mean, I have never been to a concert where the crowd has sung along so loudly than at a Dio gig. Great atmosphere, and you don't get those morons there who don't know any material, and take tickets away from those who actually want to be there and can't get a ticket. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

I'm 14 and dio is one of my favourite singers... when youre younger its harder to discover dio, when we think black sabath we think ozzy - but that's not the case when i heard some of dio from my cousin, after that dio blew me away. My friends also didnt know dio until i gave them a listen and they where instantly converted |

14 huh? Cool. You got brains for listening to what other stupid youths don't. I've been purchasing Ronnie's music since 2003. I know it doesn't seem that long. I don't know why the hell I didn't start listening to it before. But anyway congrats for converting your friends to Dio. What album did you let them listen to? BTW, I see you just joined the forum today. Welcome. |

I'm only 16 and i havnt been into Dio for anywhere near as long as i'd have liked to. But when i first heard Holy Diver (the song) i was hooked, then i heard Stargazer et all and now Dio, Rainbow and Sabbath are 3 of my top 5 bands so thanks Ron! _________________ If I speak at one constant volume. at one constant pitch. at one constant rhythm.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!
The same EXACT thing happens to me! Whenever i mention Dio, probably 9.7 times out of 10 the person has never heard the name before. i have to go into the whole Sabbath history lesson and what not too!
People are so dang stupid, yes.
Some people claim they're "hardcore" Sabbath fans, but if i mention Dio, Gillan, etc, they are like "whose that!??!" its like they think Sabbath=Ozzy, i even heard someone tell me the other day that they liked the song "Paranoid" by "Ozzy" and "Iron Man" by "Ozzy", it made me a little mad because Ozzy really had no part at all in those songs, he just sung what Geezer told him to sing. Tony Iommi wrote the songs, geezer wrote the words, so Ozzy had a pretty dang easy ride. _________________ Check out the world's only all-female tribute to Iron Maiden, The Iron Maidens

| 15 years ago when I was dating my future wife, she saw a Dio CD I had and said "Dio - you mean Ronnie James Dio from Black Sabbath?". Of course, I had to marry her then! |

Well, you had no other choice. So I imagine your wife plays you a Dio song to start the day with, and then in the evening, after a tiring day, just before the sleep you play her...a Dio song...Did I get it right?
The problem is that people are too ignorant. In fact, some of the youths don't give a s**t about hard rock and metal. The even don't realize who Ozzy is. To most of them he is the funny guy from the Osbournes. Then after watching another episode, they may come across War Pigs, Iron Man. But that's it. All they get to know is that he was in a band. So to them somebody like Gillan, Dio or Plant is a guy from a distant planet. My friends when they hear the name Robert Plant say: "ahhh, you mean he guy who did this clip with the chicks in the 80's?" They take him for Robert Palmer. Speaking of Dio: you can play his music to other people, the will nod their heads, and say: "yeah, this is a cool song. How old is he? 60+? Wow, he's really old. Well, Cristina Aguillera is still in her 20". And basically that's the end of conversation.
PS: My ringtone is Smoke On The Water. When hey hear it, people look at me and I know they think "Whatta Jerk".
So it's really sad. Hard 'n' Heavy no longer gives the boost of adrenaline to an average music listener. And Ronnie appears to be the odd man out way too often. |

| I put my ringtone as Rainbow in the Dark and the first time everyone heard it they looked at me like I was nuts-I let the phone ring for about thirty seconds just to give them a taste of the "man on the mountain" Ronnie James Dio! |
