People who avoid Hard Rock usually say that the music is too loud or they can't understand what the singer is singing.
It all boils down to a persons cognitive abilities. |

I'm 20 years old now, and i've been listening to Dio since i was about 15. I really fell in love with him and the music, and for me he is the true king of metal.
And i have exactly the same feeling like you do, that a lot of people don't know who Dio is...
.... But i actually like it! I'm glad Dio is not another mainstream act. He's just beeing himself, and doing what he love. It makes it more special for me to like him, because i have him to myself
Long live rock 'n roll! |

That's actually the opposite of what happened to me. I was in a Target one time and stuck my Heaven and Hell CD into one of the stereos in the electronics department, and cranked up the title track. I was listening to it, and some guy of about 30 came and started playing his fishing pole like a guitar. He was telling me how he saw Dio in the 80's (The Last in Line tour, lucky bastard), and really appreciated that a kid of 17 enjoyed someone as great as Dio. That's always fun, getting the praise of older ones _________________ "We'll know for the first time if we're evil or divine, we're the last in line."-R.J.D. |

well, i dont think the people are stupid, they are mearly ignorant. it is just the way things are marketed now a days. people are like sheep, they just go with the rest of the music industry without questions (good bands- great videos -power cords) you name it.. my thinking is , there are alot of great mysteries in the world that the majority of people have no clue about. consider the dio fans a unique and divine sort of people that have a common link that not all can possibly belong to . i am honored to not be ignorant to his music. but part of the under ground society of great music....i am honored to be an educator of his music cause when i play his music people do ask.."who is that" ...then the story begins.a great mystery unravels ,they look, they seek they find..you then have a new dio fan. _________________ zekenginger |

Nice...and very true. Maybe "Stupid" was a little harsh. I do get sick of people in general always associating Black Sabbath with Ozzy only, not even knowing who RJD is. But I do love turning people on to Dio and all of RJD's work. Especially teenagers who are major Black Sabbath fans. They are always like, "I didn't even know this existed". _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

It's like a secret club knowing Dio. I loke that. I personally couldn't care less whether others know who it is when I tell them what I'm listening to. All I ask is that they give it a listen, if they like it great, if not fair enough.
It is the 'secret club' aspect which leads to such hardcore fans at the concerts. I mean, I have never been to a concert where the crowd has sung along so loudly than at a Dio gig. Great atmosphere, and you don't get those morons there who don't know any material, and take tickets away from those who actually want to be there and can't get a ticket. |
i pretty much agree with you i am sorta happy its a minority and generally because of that the people who listen to it generally know a fair bit about the subject. Plus you dont get as many idiots at concerts as you said |

I recently bought cross purposes and i think it is a great album but i have never really heard people who discuss tony martin either, even among more 'enlightened' people they still only talk about ozzy and dio.
i think tony martin is a really good vocalist and i really enjoyed listening to him on cross purposes, although i haven't heard much else from him so i am only commenting after hearing cross purposes and the odd song here and there.
The same happens with other bands though like with maiden alot of people dont recognize di'anno but more so it happens to blaze who is a great singer but coming after bruce didn't help him, same with Tim Owens in Judas Priest after Rob Halford left. |

HiddenSight, Michael, diodreams - this conversation was getting into dangerous territory, aside from which it was not on topic. I know some of you were only replying to a comment you took issue with - but I thought it best to get rid of the whole thing.

Rock n Roll
The problem is that Dio, like many other performers (ex.: Alice Cooper, Jethro Tull, John Lee Hooker) have not been taken seriously because more popular bands with much less ability are promoted by their managers through shit like MTV. Ooh, look its Marilyn Manson....Satan and Sex.....Ooh.........If you want evil as in MArilyn Manson, I suggest instead King Diamond. Evil.
Anyway, most people do not like RJD or AC or any of the other old bands because they don't give them the bullshit black metal they want. People wanna see a fag in drag or Satanist effing himself.
In a way, its a blessing. RJD still has a comfortable life and you're still a fan. We don't have to put up with pop albums. In Dio's own words "I wont give you a Beyonce Song"

I understand the feeling, nobody that I know know about Dio. I've introduced him to so many people, who all love him now.
What pisses me off the very most, is that Killswitch Engage played a cover of Holy Diver. And the fact that gets me mad, is I've had a couple of people tell me the singer can sing better than Dio. And I end up arguing with those people, and most of them haven't even heard the original one...
It boggles my mind, it really does.
Also, my friends stepdad pretty much loves me because we had a long discussion about playing guitar and Dio and pretty much this subject. |
