Jens Johansson (STRATOVARIUS, DIO, YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN) will guest on the new album from AMBERIAN DAWN. According to the band, the forthcoming CD will feature Jens "playing two keyboard battles with Tuomas Seppälä of AMBERIAN DAWN."
The group adds, "There's going to be electricity on the air when these two gentlemen meet each other on the battlefield of keyboards!" |

Is anyone perchance familiar with Chastain?

Really good female fronted metal, with guitar whiz David T. Chastain on lead guitars. _________________ Stand up and shout! |

When I think about it, I only listen to very few bands with female singers.
Heres a few of the ones I like:
Aghora - It's progressive metal with some jazz influences.
Gonin-Ish - This is kind of strange. It's a japanese progressive metal band. They also have some jazz influences and some from traditional japanese music and culture. The lyrics are in ancient japanese as far as i understand - so even japanese people won't understand most of it.
Crystal Viper - A polish power metal band.
Many times I feel that the female vocals in metal genres are being used as gimmick, rather than exploring the different values a female voice can contribute to the music. |

2 more female fronted bands, both do not exist anymore I think:
Zed Yago and Hellion
I like both of them a lot _________________ This is your life

One the best cds of 2009 was Altitude by dutch band Autumn. never thought for a second it would be when Nienke the singer left but new the singer Marjan is simply excellent!
She is so powerful and original!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sce8wF4pgu0
I was listening to this song alot when Ronnie James Dio died simply becoz I could not bear to listen to DIO's music in the first days of the sad news,Everytime I listened to Ronnie's music it made me cry, this song is pretty sad as well its a bonus track that you must make sure you get if you buy Altitude
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daNuRrE0BO0
Not a bad song on the cd....
My review of the cd.
I was worried about buying this cd...would it be as good as the others.
Would the new singer be as good as Nienke De Jong.
Marjan Welman is the new singer of Autumn.
I am not even gonna get into genres of music becoz it does not matter.
This band does not need a label,I have read to many reviews of this cd and all of them seem to spend too much time writing about their genre of music. And please forgive me for not listing all the songs...I am just picking on the songs that left a powerful impression on me.
We will all have different favourites and opinions.
I am judging this cd on its songs most of all and how they make me feel...this is more important. There is always gonna be comparisons but we could say that about every band out there. There is ballads on this cd...but don't worry about that becoz this has always been one of there strengths...''Synchronic Minds'' is a classic song, its simply compelling and hypnotic close your eyes becoz Marjan Welman is spellbinding!
Her vocals are fascinating, totally appealing in this track. The cd opens with the song Paradise Nox which has quick heavy tempo, there is feel of wanton in the riff, the song shifts you into another gear, the sound is smooth, loud and clear.I adore how this song has so many unique characteristics, what a great performance, full of the refinement we know from this band.
Autumn have set the aural standard for musicality in highly-tuned few minutes.
The song Skydancer has a background vocal from Marjan in the song, this little gem of magic hides behind the main part of the chorus.
A Minor Dance is a so different but still very much Autumn the arrangement is new and has very interesting tune.
The band appears to have spent considerable time achieving the desired notes. Its is complex but beautiful.
Answers Never Questioned is another ballad, Autumn are talented musicians and elegance epitomized and embodies the ethos of this band's heart and soul.
Just make sure you get the cd with the bonus content, becoz these songs are not fillers.
"One Word Reminder" and "Closure" are the bonus tracks.
Closure is one of the saddest songs I have heard in a while The song is full of emotion and one of the best songs on the cd.Only bad thing about it is, I wanted to hear more of the guitar playing but as the song ends it starts to slowly fade.
Making the song even more sad...maybe this was the desired effect the band wanted but after listening to the cd...you just want more.
I am looking forward to a new chapter in Autumn's future discography with Marjan Welman
M60..I agree with what you say...but let me try and show you some bands that use females as not a boobs or gimmicks.

From Lady Rock....
Leah Duors of McQueen
What are you currently up to?
Leah Duors - Writing the new album and recording down demos.
Who is you all time hero?
LD - Lestat De Lioncourt from The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
What was the first record you bought?
LD - I think it was "Appetite For Destruction", my folks wouldn't buy it for me so I saved up and bought it for myself. I've not been the same since ha, ha! That's when I had my first jaw-dropping experience to do with music... I heard that album and I was determined to put my own band together.
What is your earliest memory of Music?
LD - When I was about three or four my mum used to put headphones on me and plug me into the stereo and let me sing away to all her music. I'd be there hours. I'd also make up my own little songs which I'd sing for her and they used to go on for hours and drive my mum nuts ha, ha! I don't exactly remember it clearly, but I have photo evidence.
Who is the most famous person you've meet?
LD - Well although they say you shouldn't meet your idols, but I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to share a stage with one of mine - Slash!
What's the most expensive item you've ever bought?
LD - My MacBook Pro laptop.
What is your most nerve-wracking experience?
LD - Being stood side of stage at The Roxy about to go on and sing "It's So Easy" with Camp Freddy featuring Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum... That was nerve-wracking!
Who has the worse fashion sense in the band?
LD - I don't know? Probably me.
What inspired you to become a singer?
LD - I've always loved singing, but never had the confidence when I was younger. I think Axl Rose inspired me the most because his voice was so unique and I loved the insane tones he used and his delivery was awesome. So it would have to be him.
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie?
LD - I really love John Cusack and I like Hilary Swank as well - she's pretty cool. But I like action movies too and thrillers and bloodbaths and disaster movies... I like movies that fuck with your head and stay with you.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why?
LD - Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, cos I reckon in 100 years time it will still get heads nodding! The second one would be... Earth Song by Michael Jackson.
What's your guilty pleasure?
LD - I feel no guilt about my pleasures ha, ha!
What makes you laugh/happy/smile?
LD - Life. Living.
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
LD - Hmm... Axl Rose (obviously) and maybe M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold.
What are you listening to on your iPod?
LD - My iPod has literally thousands of songs on there. I listen to everything from Johnny Cash to Marilyn Manson, to The Black Eyed Peas to The Cure, Rammstein to Queen... I listen to pretty much everything.
What keeps you healthy?
LD - Knowing my limits!
What's your favourite word?
LD - Eclectic.
What's your favourite smell?
LD - Fresh coffee, jack and coke, home.
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
LD - Never compromise yourself. Strive for excellence in your craft. Don't try and be anyone but yourself. Don't believe all you hear and don't trust all those you meet. Be smart, know your worth and earn respect through hard work, dedication and dignity!
London Wilde of Wildstarr
What was the first record you bought?
Black Sabbath's "Paranoid"... I went in on it Half and Half
with my sister, because we didn't have enough money. I
was 13.
What is your earliest memory of Music?
My father played guitar and sang Elvis and Johnny Cash
tunes, so that would be the first music I ever heard..
The first METAL music I ever heard was from a free 45 I
got at the rec center when I was 7. The band was "Steed"
and it had a big heavy drum intro. I played it over and over so
many times on my record player that my whole family
complained, and took it away from me.
Who is the most famous person you've meet?
Brad Delp of Boston...We met backstage at an RTZ show.
he's a great guy..amazing singer. His passing is very sad and
unfortunate.
What's the most expensive item you've ever bought?
I have bought many expensive things over the years, none
of which I was able to hold on to! I always end up selling
them when times get tough. Things I miss: Steinway Grand Piano,
Breedlove 12 string Guitar, 1993 Jaguar convertible.
What is your most nerve-wracking experince?
One time I was on stage for about 300 people, on an acoustic/electric guitar and singing.
Right before my guitar solo, the sound cut out on my guitar. I knew no one could hear
me but the front row, so I put a big smile on, and played the shit out of it for them. They cheered.
Who has the worse fashion sense in the band?
Well, I think I have the BEST fashion sense! Let's just leave it at that:)
What inspired you to become a singer?
Ronnie James Dio made me want to become a singer. Listening to Rainbow Rising,
"Stargazer".
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie?
Keanu Reeves is my favorite actor, I will pretty much watch anything he is in.
Matrix is up on my list , but I consider Blade Runner to be my all-time favorite movie.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs
would you choose and why?
Black Sabbath's, "Children of the Sea". People in the future need to know that we believed in the mystical and the impossible. Believing is part of imagination. In the future there will be less that is unknown, less left to the imagination, until eventually all the magic will leave the earth, which would make for a much duller existence I think. For the second track, how 'bout "Tardy for the Party", so they can also see how silly and ridiculous we can be!
What's your guilty pleasure?
Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.
What makes you laugh/happy/smile?
Everything makes me laugh! I find humor in just about everything. Laughter
is good for you. What makes me happy...animals. I feel a great sense
of peace when I am around them, and when I am sad, they fill the dark places
with light.
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
Rob Halford.
What are you listening to on your iPod?
Crown of Thorns, "Faith", Judas Priest "A touch of Evil".
What keeps you healthy?
Drinking lots of water and taking vitamin C. Swimming.
What's your favourite word?
Shadow. Not only does it sound beautiful, it's filled with mystery and intrigue.
What's your favourite smell?
Rain.
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
Yes, Don't let anyone else tell you who you are, or what to think.
Challenge the norm, break barriers, and always do the unexpected!
Rock on!
Huge thank you!
Sure, and Thank YOU for supporting females in metal!
Anette Gulbrandsen Solo singer from Norway
What are you currently up to?
singing in a church-choir, doing some background and lead-singing for diverse projects. Working as my profession, a cook.
Who is you all time hero?
hmmm, I do not know....I admire Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) for his wonderful work with his own band, and Bloodbath. I also love his work for Ayreon. Another person I really would have loved to meet is Phil Lynnott (Thin Lizzy) RIP.
What was the first record you bought?
Motley Crue "Theatre of pain" (casette) and some Queen-album (casette) at the same time.
What is your earliest memory of Music?
singing childrens songs from the age of 3-4 years old I think(my grandmother gave me a couple of songbooks)...but my first love was The Beatles
Who is the most famous person you've meet?
the crown prince of Norway (in Kosovo, where I did service for the Norwegian Army)
What's the most expensive item you've ever bought?
an apartement I had back in 2002
What is your most nerve-wracking experince? singing classical for the first time in front of my classmates I think
Who has the worse fashion sense in the band?
I am not in a band in that sense now, only projects. And I would never say cruel things like that
What inspired you to become a singer?
nothing I can put my finger on, I just did it from childhood. But of course many singers inspire me now.
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie?
I love Gary Oldman....and Dracula is one of my favourites
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why? hmmm....that would have to be "A distance there is" by Theatre of Tragedy and maybe "Eléanor" by The Gathering...I have too many favourites really
What's your guilty pleasure?
m&m's (chocolate in general) an maple walnut ice-cream...and pizza
What makes you laugh/happy/smile?
music! singing! my family and friends, and the obvious; amusement parks
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
only one? I can't say, cause there are to many....
What are you listening to on your iPod?
Right now; Leaves' Eyes "Njord", Katatonia "The great cold distance", Opeth "Still life", Delain "Lucidity" and some baroque-music (Handel & Bach)
What keeps you healthy?
ahem, I don't know if I am that healthy, but I am a vegetarian, I do strenght /cardio-training and I sing
What's your favourite word?
I have none....
What's your favourite smell?the smell of the sea (no, not rotten fish) and lilacs
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
don't ever give up doing music, cause it is the largest anti-depressant there is!
Alexandra Brooke-Martin Solo singer from England
What are you currently up to?
As you know, I've just finished recording a demo of 'covers' and I'm looking for new projects. I've had some great offers, and I'm still reviewing things
What was the first record you bought?
I think it was East 17!!
What is your earlist memory of Heavy Metal Music?
My friend gave me a tape when I was about 15 with music such as Therion, Lacuna Coil, The Gathering and Within Temptation!
Who is the most famous person you've meet? Probably Norman Wisdom..
What is your most nerve-wracking experince? Performing wise, probably getting up to do a masterclass at The Royal Academy of Music. My leg was shaking so much from the adrenaline I bet they thought I was about to belt out some Elvis.
What inspired you to become a singer?
Back in the day it was The Gathering, and Therion.
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie?
Hmm, I do have quite a few, and this one may seem an obvious choice but I do think Johnny Depp is pretty talented. As for films Bram Stoker's Dracula is a strong favourite.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why?
Definitely one of my own, it's a special thing to be remembered and appreciated long after you are gone, so you can still make some kind of a mark, even though you're not there, and possibly Hungarian Rhapsody No2 by Liszt.
What makes you laugh/happy/smile?
Cats, Fairytales,Music, Singing, Playing the piano, Storms, Michael Mcintyre!
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
Hello
Anna Lead Vocals from Cantata Sangui
1. What are you currently up to?
I'm pretty much trying to recover from the flu I got last weekend. It seems to be of a very tough sort. I've been strictly ordered not to sing or even speak that much, thus I've mostly been reading all kinds of books to keep me entertained.
2. What was the first record you bought?
To be honest, I can't really remember. It must have been one of the Beatles albums, most probably Help!, but I can't be certain about it.
3. What is your earliest memory of Heavy Metal Music?
When I was a kid we were allowed to bring our favourite LPs (yeah, we didn't have CDs back then) to our music class. One of the guys on my class brought a W.A.S.P album but I can't remember liking it too much. I remember though that me and my friend played a trick on the guys by asking the teacher to put Helter Skelter on. The guys loved it but you really should have seen their faces when the teacher told them that it was The Beatles that was playing. Priceless!
4. Who is the most famous person you've met?
The president of Finland Tarja Halonen.
5. What is your most nerve-wracking experience?
In early 2000, I was in Cuba with my husband. On our flight back from Santiago de Cuba to Havana we were caught in a tropical storm. That was pretty horrifying. I actually needed to take medication to be able to get on a plane for a couple of years after. Nowadays, fortunately, I'm quite recovered from that experience.
6. Who has the worse fashion sense in the band?
That must be me. I've even gone to the rehearsals wearing only my pajamas...
7. What inspired you to become a singer?
I have always been singing, even when I was a small kid. In that sense, I haven't really needed any encouragement or inspiration by anyone or anything.
8. Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie?
The favourite movie is most certainly Until the End of the World by Wim Wenders. Naming the favourite actor is more difficult but I'll go for Gérard Depardieu this time.
9. If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why?
I mostly listen to and like whole albums instead of songs, thus I cannot really single out any specific songs for this purpose. If I was allowed to place albums in the capsule, I would choose Passage by Samael and La Masquerade Infernale by Arcturus.
10. What makes you laugh/happy/smile?
I usually don't need any reason to smile and laugh - I do that a lot anyway. I'm most happy when I'm able to spend some time with my six cats.
11. If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
Most probably Serj Tankian - I truly like his voice and delivery.
12. Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
May the Ancient Ones guide your tentacle filled path.
Love,
Anna.

NIGHTWISH's video for the song "Amaranth" will be played on the network Reelz Channel on a program called "Movies & Music" (the evening edition), as part of an episode entitled "Rocker Girls." The show is half an hour long and it will air on Monday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
Commented the band: "This has come about due to a campaign started at Oceansouls of America where people requested NIGHTWISH videos at this network, and as a result, several videos that were never played in the U.S. before were debuted. However, these videos were only aired on the morning version of the show.
"This will be the first time that NIGHTWISH is moving from an early morning airtime to the more desirable time slot of early evening.
"Prime-time television is a huge deal, and this is the biggest sort of media exposure that NIGHTWISH has ever gotten in the United States."

OMG!!! Tarja singing Whitesnake...
Okay sorry but this is so bad!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWyEP7-eeKc
I hope this is not on the new cd
No one should be covering this song its one of those songs with the label 'only for the artist that wrote the song'
She murders it and its not just the singing the band is terrible!
Please don't tell me the folks in Tarja are loving it
No one can play like John Sykes why do this.
This song epitomizes sex from the male point view.
This is how it should sound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swPt9HBRXuE
What do you guys think?
I can even bear to listen to the Tarja version its so painful. |
