| According to Martin Popoff's new book. Dio-Light Beyond The Black, RJD was born on July 10th 1940, which means that he turns 66 tomorrow. |

OK, then he must be born in '40 if an official book says so! Wow! he's in good shape then! Vox magna! |

Many in his hometown place his birthyear as 1942. Guess some author from far away knows more than the people Dio grew up with |

| the 1940 is consistant with what I've heard. I asked the same question back in 2003, and heard "63", so yeah, 66 makes sense to me. |

I've always figured 1940 as well. He is timeless anyways. _________________ Sit on it, Potsie. |

I also have just started reading the book, Dio, the Light Behind the Black and it says he was born in 40'....really, really hard to believe.
There is a picture of him and Wendy on myspace and they both look awesome. I'd better stop eating vegetables and tour like crazy...I don't sing or play an instrument, but I'm going on tour anyway. Maybe I will do big venues teaching the Heimlich Manuever or how to spot melanoma...I'm not sure (being a nurse and all, hee hee). But touring your ass off seems to be the key to longevity and good looks!
When I have some confirmed dates, I will let you all know . _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

Here is one of the many sites who say that Dio is born on 10 juli 1942:

I'm not so sure about it anymore, cause I found this on some other site:
Dio, Ronnie James
Real name: Ronald James Padavona
Best known at: Rainbow, vocal.
Birthday: July 10, 1942 [some sources: 1940, 1948, 1949]Place of birth: Cortland, New York, USA
More: The History of Ronnie James Dio
http://www.turkku.com/music/musicians_d.html
But I know how to find out, to mail diofanclub@aol.com and ask them when Mr Ronnie James Dio is born. But I would go for 1942.
Maybe it's a good idea to make a poll: When was RJD born?
- 1940
- 1942
- 1948
- 1949
Can you make a poll with this topic Holy Magica? _________________ You're Breathless, ready to burn

I also have to say Ronnie is amazing to still sing so great !
If you notice every other singer from his era has lost it .
Ian Gillan , Ozzy , Robert Plant , Halford , and all of these guys are younger than Ronnie . The fact that he can sing so well is just
amazing !!! |
Halford can still sing great, i dont think that Dio would be able to still sing painnkiller like halford does on rising in the east dvd. To be honest after watchin holy diver live dio is staring to lose his voice as well which is only natural.
Both Halford and dio cant sing as well as they used to but both an still sing excellently. |

1949 sounds more like it, but he even looks younger than that. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

his voice sounds very good on that album. But I saw some recent live video's of judas priest, and Rob Halford does not sing the high notes so good. Someone said he can still sing Painkiller very good, well, I don't think so:

compare it to this one:

There are so many oppionions on this that I don't know what to believe anymore!
It is said that, in a pic from 57 he looked like 15. However, I don't know that pic.
When asked, he says he was born in 49 or that his age is not important.
Apparently on paper Ronald Padavona is born in 42 and Ronnie James Dio in 49.
But again: that's from what I've read, so I won't give my word for it!
So one thing we can be sure of:
We don't know.
Can we live with that? I can...
About looks: he certainly looks younger than 64!
About his voice: hasn't been the best year for his voice, but there's a fact I've noticed while studying tenor voices, ... many great voices reach a low point around the age of 57, then they return to a good sound. I'm thinking maybe this was his 57th year, which could explain a less versatile voice, with a bit forced notes and a rather harsh phrasing. However, as I've noticed on Holy Diver Live, the notes (even the high ones) ARE still there, only the attack is poor and the voice generally sounds tired. Which doesn't mean he "has lost it". He hasn't. The notes and the melodies are still there, he doesn't sing under the tone and rarely avoids a high note in live performances, which can't be said of every singer. So it's maybe just a phase - and not even an unexpected one... |
