Great film I thought! It is contains the only scene in a horror film that made me feel a little queasy, despite the lack of gore. That head on a stick bit... I could almost feel that. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

It was on TV on Saturday (Film 4). If there's anything as bad as that scene i don't think I want to see it. I'm not a squeamish person at all, but that was awful. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Well, another 2 arrived today -
Mormos: The Magic Spell Of Mother's Wrath - I don't know quite what to make of this. I think it may take some getting used to. Not what I expected at all. It's folk, with quite strong influences from other genres, such as jazz and blues. Some very nice melodies, but also some random wandering parts. Nice female vocalist. Nothing extraordinary about her voice, but it's pleasant. Sounds in places like a non-threatening version of Comus. Some odd lyrics too, such as : "Doves are white, Pigeons are grey, What a sad day"
Instant Flight: Colours and Lights - Finally, a modern band who do Psychedelia well!! Very varied disc, some parts sound like The Beatles, some sounds like Iron Butterfly, some sounds like Hawkwind, some sounds (uncannily like) the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, (in fact one of the organ solos is almost identical to the one part way through Arthur's 'Nightmare') and some sounds like their own. This band sometimes tour with Arthur Brown, and on those occasions play as Arthur's backing band - and manage to sound just like the original Crazy World band. Arthur also guests on this album, singing on the track 'Kites'. It's very nicely balanced, with some eastern influences to counter the overall 60s UK sound. Some quite heavy rocking parts, countered with some lovely quiet, ethereal sounding strings and a female voice, before going straight back into the Hawkwind-esque riff. Brilliant disk, if you can find it!! I got mine from the Freak Emporium www.freakemporium.com _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

It was a gradual thing really. I guess it started because my friend is a massive fan of Hawkwind, and he made one of me!! (And now I'm going to see them in December - yahoo!!) Anyway, that got me interested in the whole Space Rock thing, and that was probably the first step. He then lent me a DVD which had Arthur Brown on guest vocals, and I immediately fell in love with his VOICE!! So, I bought The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown - step 2.
I also bought Iron Butterfly becasue of the episode of the Simpsons In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was used, and I really enjoyed that.
At the same time, I was getting into renaissance and folk through Blackmore's Night and Rondellus. This lead to more obscure folk and acid folk, like Comus.
I was sent some psychedelic Alice Cooper stuff, and I really loved that, but I didn't expect that I'd like psychedelia per se. but I had a look and was pleasantly surprised.
So I suppose by looking for things which sound similar to all these bands it lead me to Psychedelia.
Long answer sorry! I guess the abve line would have sufficed!! _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Cheers Coop......Not a long answer...I like some Hawkwind,
When I was involved in Rock/Metal nights in clubs in the 80s/90s
There was loads of psychedelic music being played. |

Well, I don't think I'm going to have to write much about these 2 albums I got yesterday. Both I believe will be familiar to most of you on here (the first especially )
1. Benedictum - Uncreation
Wicca rules!!!! I also really like the Sabbath covers, even if Veronica does try to sound a little too much like Ronnie on Mob Rules - the intonation is exactly the same!!
2. Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
Somebody To Love, White Rabbit - enough said, methinks _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |

Geez - only me posting here - maybe I have a problem... Oh well.
Screamin' Jay Hawkins - At Home With Screamin' Jay Hawkins
This is a re-release of Jay's first LP, along with 13 bonus tracks, comprosong various singles and B-sides on the Okeh label, some alternate versions from Cow Fingers And Mosquito Pie, and a couple of RCA recordings.
includes some of Jay's best tracks - I Put a Spell On You (I have 5 different Jay versions now!!), Little Demon, Yellow Coat, Frenzy, Hong Kong, Alligator Wine (another track recorded multiple times over his career, so I have multiple versions), along with covers of songs such as Ol' Man River, Orange Coloured Sky, Swing Low Sweet Chariot. _________________ Along Came A Spider..... |
