| Is it me or is deep purple sounding realy bad recently? I know its been over 30 years since they formed but ive got the perihellion dvd and the bannanas album and it sounds crap! gillans voice is strained, he sweats more than a sumo in a sauna and there original style has been lost! Is this just me being picky or are they sounding bad to you lot as well? |

New Purple album is a classic in my opinion. Gillan has had long term problems with his voice - over 20 years on and off now, but at this point in time he's in the best form he's been in for many years, and long may it continue! As for them losing their original style.... nothing whatsoever wrong with moving on and trying to do something a bit different - consider there are now only 3 of that classic Mk2 line up in the band anyway. I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but Steve Morse is actually at least as good a guitarist as Ritchie... though I'd love the man in black to prove me wrong by getting his act together and rocking out again! _________________ Where is your star

It's sad but Gillian hasnt souded strong in probably a decade .
Even though i like Steve Morse playing alot it just doesnt sound like Deep Purple . Steve imo is a better lead player than Ritchie ,
but without Blackmore's riffs the songs just seem to have less impact . |

I'm a very big fan of all Purple lineups. MkII is my favourite, but I really like the "Mk Morse" too. Perihelion DVD is actually one of my all time favourite Purple releases. I think there can be Deep Purple without Blackmore... With Rainbow it would be a different thing though. |

I can see this could go on and on... like it wasn't Deep Purple anymore when Gillan and Glover parted from the band in 73, or when Bolin replaced Blackmore after that. I wonder if there are any fans out there who think the Mk1 line up was the definitive one, and thought it wasn't Deep Purple without Simper and Evans... _________________ Where is your star

| Imo the MkI lineup was very good... Their stuff is really worth checking out, especially for fans of a little more proggier music. |

i went to one of their concerts quite recently and i have to say gillan IS losing his scream (he'd open his mouth but no audible sound would come out), but their new guitarist is pretty cool, not as good blackmore, but he meets expectations
overall their sound has become very un-deep purpleishly heavy, which just doesn't fit their bluesy style of music |

Hey everyone,
I'm a longtime Purple fan, though Mk II is my favorite. I must say that I feel DP just isn't DP without Ritchie! I was willing to listen to Morse (and Airey, for that matter), but it lacks lustre to me. Ian is sounding better these days, which is certainly heartening, but I just can't seem to immerse myself in the newer material. |

That's cos it's boring. And now that Lord's left, it's even less Purplish!! Not so much Deep Purple, as Lavendar Haze now. And I personally think Gillan's voice has deteriorated so much, even during the '80s he'd lost it. A warning not to drink too much, people. Mk II's the best line-up to me - Blackers was on fire, they were all on fire, and Gillan's voice was tops. Ah, now I'm reminiscing... and I wasn't even born then! _________________ Y Ddraig Goch
