Lady of the Lake - good.
LA Connection - boring, imo.

That whole album is a bit of a letdown after Rainbow Rising. Some good songs, of course. Gates of Babylon is excellent. Rainbow Eyes is lovely, and one of the few songs of its type in Ronnie's catalog.

I think that Lady of the Lake is an excellent song myslef. L.A. Connection isn't quite as good, but still great none the less.

The old timer fans out there will doubtless have the red vinyl 7" single with both these tracks on... 'LA Connection' was actually the 'A' side !

That said, I prefer 'Lady Of The Lake' too, if I were to pick just one to listen to !

I don't like LA Connection much. I love Lady of the Lake. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll is a great album, but still not as good as Rising, though I love the title track, Kill the King (though it's better live of course), Rainbow Eyes and LOTL. But my fave off that album is Gates of Babylon! Yeah, baby. Twisted Evil

RandyRhoads,

I love the Long Live Rock and Roll album. Great songs. I, too discovered Dio in Rainbow after his solo efforts. That was a long time ago for me. 1984 or so.

"Rainbow Eyes" is one of my favorites on there, too.

Randy Rhoads is your name on this forum, huh? Interesting. I used to belong to that forum, but got banned last week after 3 years on there. Great site, though. Check it out if you haven't already at randyrhoads.tk. Lots of great information and DVD's you won't find anywhere else.

Enjoy, Jeffrey

Hi there Jeffrey,

Yes in discovering Ronnie James Dio I discoverd him though the song "Man On The Silver Mountain", it is the very first song that I ever heard Ronnie James Dio sing. A great song with great lyrics and my favorite singer & man in the entire world. He pretty much makes my entire world Rock!
During this time Ronnie was playing with Black Sabbath & "Heaven and Hell" was just released.

It's a very long story but, I started obtaining Rainbow albums untill just recently, and My God, I'm love'n them.
There are reasons why I had asked you Dio fans what you thought of L.A. Connection & Lady Of The Lake, and I find it to be pretty great, a fun kinda great, that these two songs are actually on a red vinyl 7" single as ronster500 has so generously said.

I will have a look see at the Randy Rhoads site that you so kindly mentioned, and thanks for the tip Jeffrey.
The reason why I choose Randy Rhoads for my aka is because I love Randy Rhoads he will forever be with me.

RAndyRhoads,

Oh, "Man on the Silver Mountain". What a classic. I first heard that song in an MTV concert with Dio on the Holy Diver tour. He of course had Vivain Campbell with him. His newer version is so much faster than the Rainbow one. I just loved it.

Did you catch the Coors commercial about a year ago when they played that song at the end? Nice touch. Love hearing a little Dio stuck into people's lives when they don't realize it.

Stay cool. Oh, you ever looked up the Dio Early Years site? Has a lot of mp3's from Dio in the 1950's and 1960's. He sounds so different, and boy does he look different. Strange hearing a young Dio sing 'Love Potion #9" and "I left my heart in San Franscisco". He's been at this a long time.

Jeffrey

L.A. Connection 5/5

“L.A. Connection” is a boring, generic song and a stereotypical Hard Rock composition.

” Lady of the Lake” is a beautiful song with a unique sound. I was always wondering what instruments were playing there? Was it guitar through some synthesizer, or was it some keyboard synthesizer? It proved to be Ritchie of course. But the cake in that song is Ritchie’s solo. It is so exceptionally smooth, so appealing in spite of being simple; and how Ritchie played it that it sounded unlike any of his previous solos? The answer I learned a couple of years later when I read one of Ritchie’s brainy quotes: “The way to play the slide is that it doesn’t sound like the slide”!
