It's rare to for reissued versions of classics songs by artists years later to be more liked than the original version. for what ever the reason, the general consensus is that the original version is almost always the best version and the one that remains in the hearts and minds of people. In the case of Elvis Presley, he did many songs that were remakes, however he changed the entire genre of music going from blues to rock with his much personalized versions and trade mark mannerisms. So I don't if Elvis really counts. Here is a list that might make better than the original. Help me out here. I cannot think of many that could original.

Arrow smith - Come Together
Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower

Wild World originally recorded by Cat Stevens sounds better by Mr Big IMHO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIy6OVRWTqQ

And of course the Blind Robins version of I am the Walrus Smokes the Beatles of course I'm bias on that one since I was the singer for that band. Laughing

These are good ones. The original crossroads was an old delta blues song even before the electric guitar or even rock.

Some of the songs you guys listed don't get a lot of radio play. Isn't it fair to say a song is better than the original when the version that is played on the radio is the most common one? For example, Wild Thing by Hendrix is the more common than the original kinks.

Must be the radio in Canada, because that version is rarely played here.

Also it was originally written by Chip Taylor and recorded by the Wild Ones in 1965. It was made famous by the British band the Troggs a year later with their 1966 remake, not the Kinks. Of course my favorite version is the Sam Kinison Version
