Ever waited for ages on a new release, believing the hype and reading all the band interviews about how this is going to be their best album yet? Or you pick up something that's had rave reviews? Or maybe you heard a killer single and bought the album? We''ve all done it - raced home, fired up the cd player and.... it sucks.

The winner by a long way: Metallica - St Anger. Oh dear. No solos, crap songs, and an annoying ringing sound off the snare drum. Evil or Very Mad

Others that spring to mind are:

Candlemass - Nightfall. Back in the 80's this was the first time I'd ever seen any band get a 5K review in Kerrang magazine, so I rushed out and bought it. I put on the record and it was a poor copy of early Sabbath slowed down to a crawl. Since then it's been gathering dust in the attic for over 2 decades. Annoyingly it still has great reviews on Amazon.

WWIII. As a lifelong Dio fan you'd think I'd be excited by a cd featuring Jimmy Bain, Vinnie Appice and Tracy G. Well, I'm not.

After watching the movie "Ray" and loving the soundtrack I bought a best of Ray Charles 2-disc cd, expecting lots of piano-based blues and rockers. Instead I got 2 hours of lounge jazz. D'oh!

Not entirely sure... But Ov Hell - The Underworld Regime is a good candidate.
