So what if it was only a few seconds, so what if he was featured with Doug Fieger of the Knack, so what if they played My Sharona as the background music. The Grammy's still recognized Ronnie James Dio as one of the Greats that were lost last year. It made watching that horrible show worth it! _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

Didn't see it, but it's an incredible achievement for an artist of any genre outside of the mainstream to get recognition. That's how good Ronnie was. His music will outlast so many of the big award winners. Look back at the award list this time next year and see how many of the pop/rap/R&B crowd still have a career when the record companies have dropped them to promote the latest "Idol" instead. The real stars are those who can sell millions of albums and fill arenas year after year with little or no airplay, don't matter if it's metal, reggae, punk, whatever. (What? Cynical? Me?!)
On the subject of R&B, can anyone tell me when that title was hijacked from rythm'n'blues and used to describe bland, sanitised, soulless rap-lite? That shit sure ain't the blues, and any rythm is usually provided by a computer-generated hand clap. |

Yeah I don't watch award shows anymore so I didn't see that either. Nice that he was recognized eventhough it was just for a second or so.
I really hate awards shows (esp the so called "major" ones). The Grammy's anymore for me seem to be all about just who's popular instead of someone who's talented and deserves the honor to be nominated and actually take the grammaphone home.
@stu I've told this to my boyfriend a few weeks ago. Just wait until Justin Bieber grows a beard and see how fast the girlys don't scream for him anymore. Heh.
Yep I'm a music cynic. _________________ Good-byes are easy to remember...you can see the hurt still there in my eyes |

Well said Stu. Yes, seeing the many faces showing up to Dio and Heaven and Hell shows up until he got sick, without the benefit of radio play, TV face time. So much for the artists who blame their lack of sales on the poor promotion by the record company. We will pay for good music. And we were loyal to Ronnie.

You said it best!
I hate awards shows. When they actually hand out awards to people who actually have talent, maybe then I'll watch. As long as they hand Lady Gaga a trophy just for existing, I'll be watching something else. Besides, she's not all that unique anyway...
I think the people who get to pick the winners should have to take some sort of competency test. Maybe something like the SAT's, only harder. |

Time acts as a great filter. The forgettable stuff gets forgotten, and the things that were built-to-last rise to the surface and become more prominent than they were at the time.
Ronnie took pride in making things that were built to last. |

Yep, too true. Heep are a great example of this, I doubt they have ever won any award whatsoever but after 40+ yrs & 20mil. album sales they are still around.

My pet hate also. There is no resemblence to RnB.
You all shouldn't pay out on Bieber, Gaga et al btw- their 5 for a buck cds in the bins make excellent drink coasters. |
