buyng an explorer by the end of the week and ive been thinking about 2 different sets of pickups for it
1: EMG 60 and 81's great metal sound xD
2: kirk hammett signature pickups great sound aswell
any thoughts on what to choose or maybe an entirely different idea?

Kirk Hammett's pickups are a dual set of EMG 81's. If you are going that route, I have an axe with an 81 in the bridge and an 85 in the neck that has me close to putting them in all of my axes... _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

The EMG's I have are the ones with the quick connect, and I did try switching them around. The 81 sounds good in the neck, but I did not like the 85 in the bridge. _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

Zakk Wylde plays an 81, 85 combo, and he has a Killer sound! Not really fond of Kirk Hammets guitar sound, with exception to Master of Puppets _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

| but now youre talking about the artists sound and not the pickups. i agree zakk wylde sounds better than hammett in my opinion but as more of an allround guitar mostly focused on metal owuldnt the 81 81 or 81 60 config be better? |

You are right, the particular sound of a guitarist is more involved than just the pickups, I guess it comes down to what pickups work best for what you want to do. So if an 81, 81 or 81,60 seems better to you then you are probably right. That and the fact that I'm a singer, so what do I really know anyway _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

I have never tried the 60, but both the 85 and 81 do stellar in the neck position. Personally, I prefer the 85 for the neck, it has a far more earthy tone than the 81. _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

The 85 has next to no personality in the bridge position. _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |

Duncan Distortion, Duncan Dimebucker, Duncan Invader, DiMarzio Super Distortion, and if the budget allows, give Bare Knuckles a listen. _________________ http://ladyrock.informe.com/ |
