Hey,

Did anyone here ever buy or hear the CD Vivian Campbell did with a band called the Riverdogs in 1990? It wasn't metal, but had a good rock and roll sound. I had it for years, but finally cleaned out my CD's to move one time. Compared to Def Leppard, it is some of the best stuff Viv has done since Dio.

Odd move for him not to play metal, having been an axe grinder for Dio for years. But it was a solid effort on his part, good songs. Wasn't promoted much, not a big seller. But sales don't mean a song is good or not, we all know.

Just wondered what your thoughts were.

Jeffrey

Hey Jeffrey

I have never followed anything Viv has done since Dio.....personally I think his best work was with Ronnie and every thing post Dio has been generally average at best.

I think Viv believed his own hype and that has cost him dear.......but if he is happy doing what he does then good on him!

But thanks to your post I shall see if I can dig anything up on you yube to have a listen to.

I have been a Viv supporter until recently of course. But I will say this back when he was with the Riverdogs, he came to Detroit a few times, and became friends with a local guitarist named Eric Goebel. When guitar magazine was asking big name guitarists who their favorite guitarist was he told them Eric was his favorite (he is pretty awesome by the way) Guitar magazine was so impressed they contacted Eric and did an article on him. So he did something cool for someone I was friends with, and I supported him even though he hasnt done anything musically worth hearing since. When he didnt say anything after Ronnie's death, I wrote him off completely.

It could have been Guitar World magazine, I dont really remember, it was twenty years ago Confused

Gosh, that was going back a bit. Yes I used to have the very same Album. My old guitar teacher from long ago did me a tape. I seem to recall thinking it was ok. Very different from what Viv was doing with Ronnie. I seem to recall one killer track on it, but for the life on me i couldn't tell you anymore.

I know over the years they have have reformed for a bit?

Funny how Viv has followed one his masters Gary Mooore in going down the blues root.

Didn't viv do an album wihth Shadow King? Seemed to remember getting very excited about that album, but thinking it was a pile of pants when i go it.

Cheers chaps.

On the subject of post Dio work, I tried to listen to his recent effort, "2 sides of if" I think the name is. I guess it is supposed to be blues or something. Sounds like an experiment with the guitar to me. Can't stand it.

No, I still can't believe he didn't say anything after Dio passed, not a peep. Anything would have been better than silence. Oh, well. I'm not perfect either.
