I don't know for sure when metal is called doom metal, but I thought it was because of doomy lyrics.
My question is: Is A Matter Of Life And Death doom metal?

If you read the lyrics you find out that it's a lot about things man have done because of relegion and it's all very negative. The lyrics are very interesting, but doomy. But I don't know when something is called doom metal. (Some people say that Master of The Moon is doom metal)

Doom Metal
A genre that uses slower tempos and emphasizes gloomy, melancholy and atmospheric music. There are numerous subgenres of doom, including drone, epic, industrial, sludge and stoner.
Bands in this genre....Draconian Gothic Doom Metal,
Click on the the band's website at my signature...you will find Draconian is nothing like...Iron Maiden.

What about master of The Moon, slow tempo songs, but no real doom lyrics. I friend of mine told me it was doom metal, but I guess that's not true.

If any of Dio's work was too be classed as Doom Metal,it would be the cd...''Strange Highways''For the most part the riffs are typical slow, doom metal riffs. Even if the riffs aren't doom centered, they still have that presence of doom (evil) because the riffs are so heavy. This can be seen on songs like One Foot In the Grave and Blood From A Stone.

Quote:
One concept that works well on this album is the drum beats intermixing with the guitar riffs, which is most often seen in doom metal. The fact is that this album gets it done. On the openining track and Firehead, this is seen orchestrated well - as well as Here's To You and many other songs on this album.

Though there are no Dio hits on this album, that should not alter you from getting this album. This album is filled with awesome guitar riffs. The album is pure evil with its doom metal style. More like Dehumanizer than any other Dio album. Each song offers at least a good riff and or moment. Plus with the wonderful voice of Dio, what more could you ask for? Dio's voice is solid perfect on this album, in fact maybe better than some of his past material. I especially licked Dio's voice on Here's To You, which comes off super strong.

Great album, with a lot of great tunes, regardless if they are hits or not. Passing up on this album would be a mistake; for all Dio's fans and fans of heavy metal!

Fans of Doom Metal.....just adore this cd.

I have been checking out reviews of Master of Moon from Doom Metal fans..this is what they have been saying about it.

Quote:
Many have called Master of the Moon a doom metal album. It’s exaggerated. Even End of the World, which basically deals with the doomsday, is more about sadness and fright than the final fall of the Earth. This is just some dark heavy metal, where ‘dark’ is just a describing aesthetic, no genre classification.

Quote:

There are two types of guitar riffs on this album. The frist type is the slow, doom like kind. There are a couple of songs that are super slow. Some examples are The Man Who Would Be King and The Eyes. These are your typical doom metal songs.

So you can understand why some folks think it is Doom Metal,I would not class it as Doom myself...simply becoz of one thing...the vocal performance...and some of the lyrical themes are not Doom Metal.

I love me some doom. Sins of thy beloved are supposed to get together again... "they were just on a break". Lake of Sorrows is a great album.

Theater of Tragedy change lmost with every album they made... the Liv Kristine era was more doomish, when she left they turned real "electronic" and sucked ass, now with new singer (On STORM) they have the perfect mix of the 2 previous eras.

Breathless: Ordinarily "Doom Metal" has more to do with the music than the actual lyrics. It has a feeling of well, the opposite of Happy/ up-tempo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvHSNaS0vto <---this is the perfect example of "Doom Metal".

You also have bands like:

Haggard
Tristania (Some)
Trouble
Amorphis (earlier works)
Sun O)))
Candlemass
Lake of Tears
Solitude Aeturnus

And the ones already mentioned:

The sins of thy beloved
My Dying Bride (Video link)
Draconian
Theatre of Tragedy (Old)

the music really sounds strange to me, but maybe I need to get used to the style. But I don't think I can get used to a grunger.
