Now when Ronnie is gone.. who will play the old Rainbow classics, will we ever hear Tony Iommi again play Children Of The Sea, Heaven And Hell, Mob Rules etc... ?
As long as we had Ronnie we could be sure to hear some of the great Rainbow songs, because Ritchie surely don't want to play them... unless they are turned into a medieval type version...
What about the Sabbath songs?? If the original Sabbath reunites Ozzy will never sing Ronnies song (neither should he be allowed to, he wouldn't be able to do them justice anyway..), and what about the Dio songs, Heaven and Hell songs...??
Sure, there will be a lot of bands covering these songs, but there will be no band focusing on keeping all these alive...
My hope is Heaven And Hell will continue, with a new singer that respects and try to do justice to Ronnie's song and the way he performed them..
Imo Tony, Geezer and Vinny should bring in either Tony Martin on vocals, or another guy which I think would be exciting to see with these guys: Jorn Lande...
There you have a guy with a powerful voice that could do Ronnie's songs justice, and he is a big fan of Ronnie's himself... |

I don't mean to spread rumors here, but I have read at one posting that Rob Halford of Judas Priest would do a Tribute show to Ronnie. I know he did some songs with Sabbath back in 1990s, and they are friends. But the is also busy with his own work to devote himself to the Sabs or Heaven and Hell, I would think.
I don't want to think that I won't hear those songs ever again, either. There aren't any DIO cover bands that I know of. He is hard to replicate.

I would hate for the band DIO to appear again with another singer...no matter who he was or how good he was.
DIO will always have the one singer and that is Ronnie James Dio.
Queen replaced Freddie Mercury with Paul Rodgers great man, great singer but it was wrong for so many reasons.
It was not Queen and should never had the Queen label.
If the same happened with band DIO, I would be so pissed off.
But I would like Craig, Rudy, Simon and Scot to do a tour or write a cd together and have unknown vocalist in the band and for the band not to called DIO but maybe called Holy Diver or something like that. Its only in these guys that I trust to play the music like what Ronnie wanted for the band DIO.
But it must never be called DIO. |

Yes, that would be interesting. But who can sound and perform like him? I guess it is possible, I am still shocked to see the new guy for Journey to sound so much like Steve Perry. He looks nothing like him, and is from another country.
You never know.

I agree, the band Dio will not be able to perform under that name again... but Heaven And Hell can still go on, with another singer, of course it will be a different band, and maybe the would want to change the name... but the band itself can go on.. , maybe as the Neon Knights
What an exciting lineup it could be: Iommi, Butler , Appice, Jorn Lande...
Or as you say, the remaining members of Dio still going on under a new name...
Even so, it would be a shame if the classic Dio-related songs never would be played live again in a regular basis.. |

Listening to Doogie White on the Rainbow "Rising again" live cd recorded back in 1995, I remember (at least back then) thinking he did a good job on covering both Dio & Gillan...
Haven't listened to anything from him in years, so maybe it's just wrong...
But if H & H would continue, with Doogie maybe they could do "Born again" as a tribute to Dio?
Also, I think this anecdote is quite amusing:

Well, you all will probably hate me now, but I would rather not hear the songs on stage again than being sung by someone else. It will never be Ronnies voice, so they will never be the same... it could only sound worse I think.
Its not only Ronnie I feel like this about though, its cover-songs in general that I am not too fond of. And with a powerful singer such as Ronnie, for me they are an absolute no go. _________________ This is your life

I agree with Holymagica and Rhonda......no Heaven and Hell and No Dio.....they will never be able to replace Ronnie......ever.
Now the guys carrying on in some shape or form is a top call........but I have to say Ronnies songs are Ronnies songs and whilst people can sign them - they are never done with the same passion, energy and feel that Ronnie had.
Alas the master has left us............there will never be another Ronnie James Dio - and that makes me very sad. _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

My opinion is that Ronnie cannot be covered in a satisfactory way.
But let me qualify this. If someone is trying to cover Dio and sound just like Dio, it won't happen. Dio is too singular. Rob's voice is amazing but it is not Dio.
If however someone rewrites a Dio song into their own style, it can be done exceptionally well.
Here is a beautiful Holy Diver tribute to Ronnie, done in acoustic. It's excellent, not Ronnie's style, but done beautifully.

You cannot cover Dio like Dio, you gotta find your own voice if you want to sing one of his songs.
Olivious, you're right, there's no replacing Ronnie. |

I will also add that if it's a Dio cover trying to sound just like Dio, I'm not interested. I want to hear the original.
If performed in one's own personal style, I am of course more than interested in hearing it. |

First, I have to agree, as far as the surviving members - should they choose to do so - doing such under another name.
After all, it's not truly Dio without Ronnie. Likewise on Heaven and Hell.
With that said, is there truly any vocalist qualified enough to assume the mantle? Would all the Dio classics even be the same with anyone else behind the mic?
Ronnie James Dio is one of a kind. When you heard a Dio song, you knew exactly who it was, no ifs, ands or buts. No one else can be Dio.
Though I would love to hear all those wonderful songs again, in some capacity. But you can't replace Dio. It simply can't be done.
The one ingredient of a Dio song is a voice with lots of power and energy. And although there are quite a number of talented vocalists in this world, very few, if any, could ever fill the shoes of our beloved Ronnie. _________________ Stand up and shout! |

I just don't want any other singers to sing in DIO band nor Sabbath band.
Because simply no one never can sing like Ronnie.
Ronnie created all the music itself by making many tunes with his guitar and bass, his vocals and unique lyrics.
All the songs are ronnie's art.
So only he can express his emotions like him.
Even if Rob will sing Heaven and Hell for instance, he cannot express deep emotion and thoughts and words created by Ronnie's own experiences and amazing inspiration.
Because that comes from Ronnie's deep inner feeling and soul.
Additionally Ronnie was an incredible singer.
He can sing a song by inprovisation and making melody or lyrics instantly on the site. See silver mountain middle part of Rainbow.
No one can do like that.
And his voice is such a wonderful, sexual, warm, beautiful and amazingly tireless.
I cannot accept any other singer's voice.Never.
I don't honestly want someone to revive the DIO songs or Black Sabbath songs.
Ronnie has done more than enough for long years for fans.
We have many many archinves. He has used up his energy to sing until the end of time.
How can we ask survived members to play any more?
Only Ronnie can sing in DIO and Heaven and Hell. _________________ ☆Tell me lies as long as it's not about love☆ |
