The first album I ever heard Ronnie James Dio on and what an album! Kill the King is still my favourite ever rock track BUT the absoulte highlight of this album is towards the end of Catch the Rainbow when it all goes quiet and Ronnie is virtualy acapella and builds the song up to the line 'make it shine......for you and Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii and the Cozy thunders in and well.....it raises the hairs on the back of my neck ever time!!

I know the full shows have since been issued but for me this will always be one of my most treasured records.....it set me down a path.

As a live album this one is truly a classic (in my opinion!).

Many people argued against a live album in such a short amount of time Rainbow had been in. But this line up just had to have an official release live.
Okay it does run short and no Stargazer but it`s the actual sound production and mix as well as the superb performances that make this album stunning.
Edited but here I think eack member hit their peak creatively and Ronnie`s vocals are mindblowing. This album sounds as if the band are playing directly in front of you in your own living room.
Credit has to be given to Martin Birch for a cracking production, what an album. PowerKnight Twisted Evil

I saw a cover of Stargazer done by some japanese fellows the other day that was near perfection....even the singing was quite good and on the mark. I usually see Rainbow in the Dark done as a cover, or Holy Diver. This was spectacular considering the level of difficulty.

Wish I had the link. It's somewhere on the Official Dio page on Facebook.

This album I love. The live performances of Rainbow I almost prefer to the studio albums, and then when I pop in the studio albums, I wind up loving them too.

A MUST HAVE RAINBOW CLASSIC!

Ronnie James Dio's RAINBOW!!!!! Wink
