This was my first introduction to Ronnie James Dio, mines was a reissue of the record with the gatefold sleeves back in 1978, I would have been 12 years old, it was a birthday present that I wanted, I wrote a few down that year Smile , I got this and Trouble by Whitesnake.

I still have it today and its in mint condition as are all my Rainbow records.I would leap frog Rising Shocked becoz that Christmas I would get Long Live Rock 'n' Roll it was later before I would get my hands on Rising, the first Rainbow record will always be my favourite becoz of that.

What a beautiful album.

ALL the music is great.

The level of sophistication in the writing may be greater than music made w/Black Sabbath.

My favorites are Catch the Rainbow and The Temple of the King, especially the pretty way Ronnie sings.

This is a 'must have' for fans of Dio.

An absolute classic.

Hey guys, I'm new here, great forum! Very Happy

I LOVE this album - I love all the Rainbow albums that RJD is on, but this would just edge out ahead as my favourite. I think this was the 2nd album with Ronnie on that I ever got, the first being "Sacred Heart", which was his latest at the time I first heard him. There was a very brief snippet of the "Rock N Roll Children" video on "Top Of The Pops" here in the UK in the week the single first charted, and I bought the album on the strength of that.

Back to "RB's Rainbow", this album has a unique sound for me, with Ritchie's guitar being warm and overdriven rather than heavily distorted, and the combination of that with Ronnie's voice and lyrics really makes the album stand out for me. Songs like "Man On The Silver Mountain", "Temple of the King", "16th Century Greensleeves" and "Self Portrait" have a little of the medieval feel that RB would later explore in more depth with Blackmore's Night

also, in around 1990 Ronnie gave an interview with "Raw" magazine in the UK, where he said that he actually preferred the first album to "Rising". He wasn't taking anything away from "Rising", but said something along the lines of the first album was a little overlooked, which he thought was a shame.

It still sounded a lot like Elf.So this album can be seen as some kind of a bridge from Elf to Rainbow.I also like Self Portrait a lot .

This is where it all began...the babtizm of fire and singer/guitar songwriting was what Ritchie wanted at this time. And boy did he get it!!! Out of the three stuDio albums I prefer the other two, but thin one was very special with a medieval ambience carried through the Rainbow/Dio years. PowerKnight Twisted Evil

I feel every artist reaches a point where they create their most important works after years of more formidable practice.

I feel that this is where Ronnie came of age. The singing on this album is perhaps some of his best. So beautiful.

I could not rave enough about this album.

Pure artistry here.

Nothing cheesy or shallow.

So incredibly good.

Catch the Rainbow from 1977, Live in Munich...amazing.

I rented the DVD from Netflix. I was glued to it.

Mistreated is off the hook amazing during the same concert.

The solid tone and precise performance in these recordings keeps me coming back.

So good. Seriously. I can't say enough. Oops, I just said the same thing in my post before. lol Still, can't say enough.
