I too am a geezer. Although I prefer to think of us as "ripe" instead of "old."

The last time I was carded I thought the bartender was just grasping for a big tip. (No, not the dirty kind!)

Geezer here.

But I must say I became dissillusioned over the anemic, low-testosterone "wuss metal" of the 80s and stopped listening to metal during that decade. I still liked classic hard rock, though.

Now I like metal again since those wuss-metal bands have faded out.

I lost interest in a lot of Death Metal...the vocals really bugged me...though I liked some of the instruments...so I found Renaissance...a lighter band...one that doesn't scream...
About metal...I hate the new metal of today...all shit!!!

What's interesting is the "heavy metal" that I listend to 20-30 years ago is now considered "hard rock" or "rock." My wife listened to her first Black Sabbath yesterday. We were in the car, so it wasn't like she was goint to leave or anything! It was Heaven And Hell. She had much apprehension when she knew what I was putting in the player. When it was done, I asked her what she thought. She said it wasn't heavy metal, it was more like rock, and that it "wasn't that bad." (That is one of the best things she EVER says about my music.)

Anyways, a lot of the early metal sounds very tame compared to some of the more extreme sounds of today. (Judas Priests 'United' anybody?) Personally, I wouldn't mind a step back in that direction. But that's just one Bildo's opinion! Razz

I voted in the poll, but don't really think I *need* to actually state how long, do I?

Let's just say, I remember listening to the VERY FIRST album by the band who invented Metal, and I was 10 years old, at the time.... Very Happy
