there's an advert in this months record collector magazine for deluxe editions of "rising" and "down to earth" (coming soon apparently).

having looked online and on universal/polydor's websites i can't find any details about what will be extra about these new versions.

anyone any details?.

Sounds like something to look forward to! I guess new tracks would be a lot to ask for , but new mixing and mastering could be cool. That's hard to improve on though. I learned to play double bass to Rainbow Rising. I put my finger on the LP to slow it down to get the intro to Stargazer. Cozey was a bad ass. I saw the Down to Earth tour at Long Beach Arena. Great show, Although Blackmore wanted to go on before Randy Hansen who stold the show. Blackmore cut off the instruments on the PA, leaving only the vocal mic on. Hansen was pissed and proceeded to let the crowd know what bullshit it was, and that it was Blackmore behind it....Good Times!

This statement is taken from www.deep-purple.net

Looks like Universal are working on some Rainbow reissues, as boxes of Difficult To Cure out-takes and instrumentals are being sorted through as we speak. It could be a remaster of the album or more likely a search for goodies for an all-singing all-dancing box set.

Universal are preparing Deluxe Editions of Rainbow Rising and Down to Earth. All Universal's previous Deluxe Editions have been 2-disc sets, though they're keeping quiet about what will be on the bonus discs for the moment. Steve Hammett says his money is on the Donington 1980 set as a fair bet for the bonus disc of Down to Earth but our spies tell me CD2 is studio out-takes and stuff, not the live set. Certainly boxes of tape were being sorted through in the studio earlier this year.

Hope this helps.

MORE NEWS...

Rainbow Rising
Contains two mixes of the original album on disc one. If any of you remember back to the original CDs of this album, the UK and US versions sounded very different, and it may be that these are the two mixes concerned.
Disc two has what are being called 'rough mixes' of the album, and two tracks from the early rehearsals. Let's hope they've gone back to originals sources on this lot.

Down To Earth
Another double, this has the album and single on CD1, and a load of instrumental version on CD2. This is a bit of a worry, as previous Universal 'instrumental bonus tracks' by other artists have just been the original track with the vocal faded down. Hopefully in this case they've found something more interesting.

Sounds interesting, as long as they have something new and are not just money spinners for the record label.
