Not a fan of Nightwish but I pick Tarja. (even though Anette lives close to where I live!)

As far as those two specific performances go, Anette blows Tarja away. Anette has far better control and breathes far better that Tarja does.

Really??? Tarja's performance is downright painful when the two videos are compared...
I would really like to hear the opinions of the other 4 votes in this thread.

First I must say...I am a fan of Tarja, the songs she did with Nightwish are amazing.
If it comes to down who is the better singer....Tarja wins but I am asking who is the best for the band and their sound.
Tarja for me will always be the better singer...but for the band I think Anette is best, Anette has improved, she is filling big shoes.
Maybe Tarja should have joined another band before going solo...just to get more experience.
I think going solo has given her a shorter shelf life, yes she has talent but lacks alot of creativity.I am trying to look back over the history of female fronted artists for some examples instead of all female bands like the The Go-Go’s or the Runaways and I can only think of Annie Lennox...she was in 3 other bands before she went solo, regardless what you think of her music...Annie Lennox did make the jump from being in successful band to being a successful solo artists...just in Britain alone she has won awards as
1984 - Best British Female Artist
1986 - Best British Female Artist
1989 - Best British Female Artist
1990 - Best British Female Artist
1993 - Best British Female Artist
1993 - Best British Album
1996 - Best British Female Artist
Anyway back to Tarja....I think the best thing her manager can do is get her back in another band...its too soon for her going solo.
I hate to think what would have happened if Ronnie James Dio went straight from Rainbow into creating the band DIO.
What band she goes into is hard to say...maybe Theater of Tragedy sorry fans of Nell 
I would love to hear Tarja singing this song....

Exactly, HM. A live performance is what MAKES a band, not studio magick.. Better live vocals, better for the band.
It is unfair to compare long term to short term membership, and people need to stop staring long enough to listen... Tarja's live vocals were almost painful..
Yes, is far too soon for her to be a solo act, but I don't think she would work well in another band situation now..
