I was a diehard Dio fan between 1983-1988. (Holy Diver-Dream Evil). But, with adulthood and marriage, I lost touch.
Around 2003 or so, I was fed up with the hip hop culture and the lack of talented entertainers. So, I went onto Amazon and with debit card in hand, proceeded to rebuild my Dio collection........ From Lock up the Wolves to Master of the Moon, along with Heaven/Hell through Dehumanizer.
This was like opening a dusty book full of wisdom. Perhaps the Nostradamus of our era.......lol......
I am ready for the next step. I do not own any Rainbow, anything. So I value your opinions on where to start... thanks. |

Ok, Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow will be on order shortly. I will return with a personal review.
I think the cover is what kept me away in the first place. Im not really into the "fantasy" thing, But I will keep an open mind........thanks guys. |

I have been a long time Dio fan for many, many years and am completely devastated by his passing. I had the pleasure/honor of touring with Dio on the Lock up the Wolves tour. (I was the merch guy) What everyone says about Ronnie is 100% true. He was the nicest, most honorable guy you could ever meet and I have been greatly saddened by his loss. I have many great, great memories of that tour from talking and hanging out with Ronnie, to being able to watch him do what he did best night after night.
RIP Ronnie, you are greatly missed. _________________ Long Live Rock & Roll, and Long Live Ronnie James Dio!

To me Rainbow & Black Sabbath early eras are perhaps Dio's best work.
His vocal tone was prime in that era. The live concert stuff is amazing to me.
Just listen to 'Mistreated' LIVE in Munich. His skill is refined and tight more than I've ever heard.
(and I am obsessed, I have scrutinized Dio's performance of songs decade by decade)
But ALL the Rainbow.
Forget any Rainbow that is not DIO!

I also vote for Live in Munich 1977. It's also on CD as a two disc set. |
