Hey guys, I need help with a guitar question real quick. I recently got done writing a riff, but I'm having trouble trying to "harmonize" it. The problem is, I'm still trying to learn harmonies, and I don't know the exact notes I'm looking for.

I am looking for the harmonies to these notes. They are all on the A string:

7, 9, 10, and 12. Don't know if this makes a difference, but my guitar is tuned a half-step down. I'm also missing my D string. Embarassed

Can anyone help?

...first of all buy a new set of strings & put them on immediately...the absensce of the D string will effect your overall tuning & the tension of the neck...sounds like you better check the Truss also...plus you really cant play much without it... Laughing ...as far as your question goes you are being vague...try posting a vid on youtube...refer to your question with your guitar & post a link...I'd be happy to help & collaborate with you... Wink

Thanks for the advice, Bobby. I'll be sure to get it fixed ASAP. And thanks, but honestly I'd rather stay away from YouTube altogether. Too many trolls you know? Sorry if my question in my previous post didn't make too much sense. I can't really think of a way to explain it any better. If you have any other suggestions, though, I'd like to hear 'em. Cool

Just keep messing with it, the best way to get to know your fret board is to go over it and over it so much that your fingers hurt. After a while you start to see and feel a pattern in your mind and stuff will just come to you. Start simple first though and it'll come to you. Wink

Those notes in E tuning are; E, F#, G and A. Are these the root notes to power chords or just simply notes? I'm not exactly sure what you want to harmonize. Harmony is usually created in 3rds or a 5th or octaves as well.

Thanks for the help. That goes for everyone else as well. But I think I got it figured out. I have already bought a new set of strings, and found the octave I was looking for, for my riff. I was a little confused with the whole octave thing, but now I think I got it down. Thanks for the help guys. Wink

There comes a point in time after you've worked your fret board to death that that stuff will just come to you, sticky spots always come here and there but most of the time songs will almost write themselves by feeling alone and you'll no longer even think about what notes are what, you'll just do it.
