None other than myself. I was lucky enough to get to attend the school. This was of course many moons ago (1988.) It was a great experience. There were guitarists of all levels and some from all around the world. My roomate had come from Sicily to attend. I remember when he hooked me up with a ticket to see Pink Floyd at the Coliseum (during that year. ) While I was attending one of the students from my session got a gig with Alice Cooper. WAY COOL! At the time, i had a musical background (i played saxophone as a youth ) but was largely self-taught on guitar. The training definitley helped in creating my own style of playing. I see your post was in Jan. I was last on the site in June and came back now Oct. to check out the posts. I see your from Michigan. Where bouts? I am also from there. I should retract the statement about the guitarist mentioned abov he still plays in bands, but never really made it out of his home town after returning from the institute. He was there around the same time as you, you may have even known him. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

I would love to take some training beyond the few books of lessons i took as a kid but also fear it changing my style in a way, for me things really took off when i cut loose from the lessons and took off on my own feeling... i thing really though it would only help. _________________ GUITARGOD |

I was there for the March 1988 to March 1989 session. I do remember seeing most of my fellow classmates but not so sure on all the names. I was given a student directory after graduation with all students names and hometowns listed. What was your bandmates name? BTW, I'm in the Kzoo, MI area. _________________ "The old ones speak of winter, the young ones praise the sun and time just slips away..." |

Sounds to me like you've got a style of playing which was the purpose of attending MI. One takes all the musical rules and then puts their own stamp on it. Not a copy of someone else but a musician with something to say. Searching for and then creating the music within them. If you had the time and $, it was well worth it. Very cool experience. _________________ "The old ones speak of winter, the young ones praise the sun and time just slips away..." |
