One of the unsung heroes from the NWOBHM, apparently they stole the show in Newcastle when they opened for Motorhead and I'm hoping to see them play in full next year in Newcastle again.
They remind me of early 80s Judas Priest and Bon Scott AC/DC.
Very catchy band, the tone and drive of Judas Priest with uncrackable style of singing that Bon Scott brought to AC/DC, the power to deliver some neck breaking riffs.
So, let's give some words for Saxon! |

True Hard Rock pioneers! They got buried in all the hair bands and probably never got their just dues!
But really glad they are still around and rocking!
Show those kids how it's done guys!!!

New Cd now:Into the Labyrinth
Realy great!
It starts with "Batallions of Steel",a True-Metal-Hymn,very catchy!
"Live to Rock" is a straight Rocker.
After a smoothy intro, the "Demon Sweeny Todd" opens your throat with his razor.
"The Letter" is only the intro of the "Valley of the Kings",that brings you to the ancient Egypt.A highlight of the Cd!
"Slow Lane Blues"is not a typical Saxon song and not a real Blues,it´s a slow-rocker. Mhm...
"Crime of Passion" is a good song, but nothing special.
After a short intro "Voice" is a very atmospheric song, about the burnig down of his french house.
"Protect Yourselves" is a typical Saxon song - not a killer/not a filler.
"Hellcat" is the fastest Song of the Album. If you dont bang your head to this song, you must be dead!
"Come Rock of Ages"-another great Hymn.
Bonus track is a accustic bottleneck version of "Coming Home"from the "Killing Ground" Album.
Check this out!
P.S.:Saw them this week live in Vienna - WHAT A LIVEBAND!!!!! _________________ No more night-I´ve seen the light

I might go down to Middlesbrough to see them again this year, they were awesome in Newcastle and don't understand why they're dodging it. Its far superior a venue to anything in Middlesbrough and the pull factor for travellers is better as you can actually see and breathe through the smog. |

SAXON's new DVD documentary, "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie", has landed at position No. 3 on the official midweek U.K. Music DVD chart. The film narrowly lost out to MICHAEL JACKSON at No. 2 and U2's new release at No. 1. It's a massive achievement for the DVD, which was made without the backing of a record company and which was funded by the fans.
The six-hour-long limited special edition package, including the feature-length doc, two classic concerts and a series of often-hilarious mini-films, was officially released this week. Producers Coolhead say there are now only 3,000 copies left.
SAXON are true heavy metal heroes. Their story is a classic rock 'n' roll saga: five friends from the backstreets of Yorkshire setting out to take on the world. The resulting chart glory, mixed with band infighting and full-on rock excess, ensures their dramatic tale will become part of heavy metal history.
This feature-length documentary film tells the full warts-and-all story of 30 years of heartache, earache, success and excess. Produced by critically acclaimed documentary filmmakers Coolhead, it not only has contributions from SAXON, past and present, but also from the likes of Lars Ulrich (METALLICA), Lemmy and "Fast" Eddie Clarke (MOTÖRHEAD), Harvey Goldsmith, AIRBOURNE, AMON AMARTH, Doro Pesch and many, many others. It also features freshly-uncovered archive material, including the band performing in 1979 on MOTÖRHEAD's "Bomber" tour, recording sessions and interviews from the "Crusader" and "Innocence is No Excuse" albums, a classic concert from 1981, along with stunning headline performances at Wacken Open Air in 2009 and the now-legendary inaugural St. George's Day show in London. The whole production was funded by SAXON's army of loyal fans, who pre-ordered copies of the film before it was completed, providing Coolhead with the budget to make the film.
