Thought about to create a poll and put three songs against each others... the best-known songs from each era (except Elf), "Man On The Silver Mountain" from Rainbow, "Heaven And Hell" from Black Sabbath and "Holy Diver" from Dio.
I know Dio has stated that "Heaven And Hell" is the favorite song of his career and yeah, it is a friqqin' awesome riff which really awakes great emotions... the best version of this one to me is from the Black Sabbath reunion Heaven & Hell, I think that's the closest you can get to the soul of heavy metal really...
And "Holy Diver" is probably even more popular (if not the most popular). The most powerful version of the song IMO is from Holy Dio tribute album, really love the arrangement.
But, my favorite of all three is however "Man On The Silver Mountain", just love the way it catches... and special kudos to Rock Palace version in YouTube, great energy and passion there!

Heaven and Hell is by far my favorite of the three, but Man on the Silver Mountain is by far the most popular of the three. It is still played on any given day on Classic Rock Stations around the country (USA) _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

Now that's interesting... I would've put the list by popularity like 1. Holy Diver, 2. Heaven And Hell, 3. MOTSM.

When thinking about popularity, you have to put your own thought aside. As Dio fans we know all these songs, and have a much more educated opinion about what we like the best. However, the average person listening to the Radio, doesnt even know Ronnie played with Sabbath, and barely remembers that he had a huge career back in the 80s with the first three solo Dio albums. if you ask them if they know each of the songs listed, I would be willing to bet that most know MOTSM. They probably do not know who it is, but they know the song. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

I'd say, with the name of Black Sabbath, and the amount the song has been played, I think it is Heaven & Hell. _________________

As for the topic: The best-known RJD songs
I think that HOLY DIVER & RAINBOW IN THE DARK are know best since they are the most publicly played....however I would not say that these are the best _________________
