The second Elf studio album which appeared in 1974...
To me it's not quite as good as the 1st one. Although the style was quite the same as in the previous one, the songs just ain't as good as they were. "L.A. 59" is probably the best one here, with the catchy hook of "hello, hello sunshine..." etc. Another quite a good one - "Do The Same Thing". Then most of the rest is just good or a bit below that. The worst song of the Elf songs catalog (to me) can also found from here, which is "Happy"... really dislike the hook in the end... irritates. Special mention about "Rainbow" btw, the sign of the theme that Dio has used many, many times afterwards... the beauty of a rainbow.
1. Carolina County Ball ***
2. L.A. 59 ****
3. Ain't It All Amusing **½
4. Happy *½
5. Annie New Orleans ***
6. Rocking Chair Rock & Roll Blues ***
7. Rainbow ***
8. Do The Same Thing ***½
9. Blanche **½
So - now it's time for other opinions. What do you think about this album?

I thought it was a pretty good album. The first time I heard Elf I almost could not believe it was RJD. It was like a cross between Southern Rock and Rainbow. But, it is what rock n roll used to be, fun! _________________ Life Member of the NRA |
