|
|
In of Egypt(the chains are on),or my copy at least, there's a message Dio speaks in between the chorus near the end of the song. I'll run through it:
*Bitchin guitar solo*
When the world was milk and honey,
and the magic was strong and true
then the strange ones came, and the people knew,
yeah, that the chains were one
that the chains were on
that the chains were on
that the chains were on
oh my the chains were on
In the land of the lost horizon
where the chains are on
in the land of milk and honey
still the chains are on
(message)
When the queen... etc
Anyway, it's Dio saying... something. I can't make it out. Anyone have any ideas? It just bugs the hell out of me... _________________ Just imagine, will you try?

sounds like he is saying:
"Where the queen lies dark and lonely
still the chains are on" |

Why do you perceive it to be a message

I think the last 2 words may be something about the Dark Queen.
Maybe its backwards, like at the end of Shame on the Night. Perhaps someone with a vinyl version could check.
Funny how we are all driven to know what this short 'message' is. It could be Ronnie's shopping list I do enjoy the little things that end up on CDs though - dropped drumsticks (Alice Cooper's Be My Lover from the Killer album) or parts mistakenly recorded (the 'eggs' at the end of Ozzy's Crazy Train. I honestly never noticed this before...
I did a little "research". Opened the wav file in Audacity (wave editor), set it to "spectrum", so it will display the frequency spectrum of the track. Set the span from 50 to 6000 Hz. Ronnie's voice has a very characteristic spectrum of overtones with a strong 3 kHz formant (usually there only in classically trained voices, but he's got it all right). Found the snippet, played it slow, played it backward, looked at it...
The only thing I can say for almost sure is that it's a voice, but it's not Ronnie's. It has a different frequency spectrum. Couldn't make out the words though, neither forward nor backward
Short shopping list, The Coop! I wish mine were that short |
