|
|
The last Dio album to get a US Gold certification by the RIAA was Sacred Heart in 1985!
But a new Dio gold album could be on it's way! The 2000 compilation The Very Beast Of Dio appeared on a soundscan catalog chart in November 2007 (see below).
With over 442,000 over the counter scans as of November 2007 it is likely that actual shipments of the album in the US has now surpassed 500,000 = Gold!
Week Ending: 11/04/2007
18 WAR 158 153 159 DIO VERY BEAST OF DIO 1,710 8 1,588 442,421
However, certification is not automatic. The record company must apply for certification first. If they don't, it will never get certified!
How cool is that. A new US Gold album for Dio!
And while they're at it, why not look into sales of some of the older albums too, maybe Dream Evil is approaching Gold too? Could Sacred Heart be Platinum? Could Holy Diver be Double Platinum???
And how about the old Rainbow albums? They were never certified!
Here's the list of Ronnie James Dio related albums and their current US certs:
Dio - Holy Diver - Platinum (1,000,000) as of 03/21/1989
Dio - Last In Line - Platinum (1,000,000) as of 02/03/1987
Dio - Sacred Heart - Gold (500,000) as of 10/15/1985
Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell - Platinum (1,000,000) as of 05/13/1986
Black Sabbath - Mob Rules - Gold (500,000) as of 05/13/1986 _________________ "They'll tell you black is really white. The moon is just the sun at night. It's Heaven & Hell!" |

Btw, how to read the soundscan catalog chart:
Weeks on chart, label, rank 2 weeks ago, rank last week, rank this week, artist, title, sales this week, sales gain in %, sales last week, total sales.
Catalog titles are albums more than 18 months old that have fallen off the top half of Billboard's Top 200 album chart. _________________ "They'll tell you black is really white. The moon is just the sun at night. It's Heaven & Hell!" |

Interested in your post...i often check out the RIAA to see if any DIO or Sabbath albums have been recently certified..
May i ask how you were able to find out the sales figures for the Best of album..?
I have gone onto the soundscan website and it seems you have to be in 'the business' to be able to register for regular info etc...
Another interesting source of sales/statistic info is the Boxscore in the Billboard magazine which lists the top 20 grossing concerts each week....Heaven & Hell had a few postings last year from the USA tour.. |

You're right soundscan information is usually for business people, but sometimes there are leaks on the internet, also sometimes numbers are poster on news sites like Blabbetmouth and so.
I found the Dio number on another music forum.
Personally I don't see why sales numbers should be secret, but the problem is that the Soundscan company make money from selling information to companies and other business people. If they made the sales information public, they wouldn't make any money... _________________ "They'll tell you black is really white. The moon is just the sun at night. It's Heaven & Hell!" |
