What's your favorite Dio scream? Which is the most lung-ripping, throat-shredding screech that twists your spine, tenses your muscles, and makes you grind your teeth. I like the opening 'Yeaaaaah gypsy!' from Holy Diver's Gypsy. It sounds like he drank a gallon of turpentine, swallowed a handful of razor blades then threw a lit match down his throat. Shield - You said all there is to say about that scream....brilliant use of descriptive language.
I have two favorites aside from the Gypsy scream:
Dont Talk to Strangers - The last line of the intro: "Dont dream of women because they'll only bring you DOOOOWWWNNNNNNNN." That scream on DOWN sets the stage for the pounding he is about to give the listener.
Children of the Sea - The last line of the intro: "Reaching for the sun we blind the SKYEYEYEYEYEYEY. The aspect of his SKY scream that is most impressive to me is that he sings half of the word in an almost angelic voice, but he finishes the word in a demonic tone. If you listen hard enough, you can hear the horns growing out of his head. _________________ You got a choice: the hammer or the nail. |

Dont Talk to Strangers is an obvious one, but your Children of the Sea observation is very astute. This is why Dio is the best . You are so right. His metamorphosis midnote is awesome! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/crescentshield

The opening scream on Mob Rules, right before Vinny comes down like a mutha on the crash cymbals. |

| I have to go with PAIN off of Strange Highways. He sounds like he is totally pissed off at the world. |

| When Dio does "Last In Line" live, I like when he adds to the verse We may "Never, never ,never, never, never, never, never, never never, never ,never, never, never, never, never, never, come home! |

| All the screams are special to me,as he screams atr all shows when live,,I dio bnot believe that he even needs a microphone to fill the arena with his voice!~!.. I think he really does not even have it turned on!!.. Just a sopeculation, but maybe ,I am right.. The mans' voice is loud enough to penetrate the wehole place without a mic!..What does everyone else think?? |
