1 word quick review:BORING.I'll give it a 4 stars out of 10.And my question is:Other than the slow boring riffs,is Iommi able to write something else these days???Judging by the music he has created in the last 10-15 years, the answer is NO.I mean, when I listen to Atom&Evil,Turn of the screw,Breaking into heaven,Shadow of the wind or his last Iommi solo release, is like listening to the same song under a different name again and again.I'm curious how many copies this new cd will sell?I bet it will be a commercial disaster.

I have moved your topic into the right section.
Regardless of what you are reviewing next time you decide to write a review...I think you should follow these rules the next time you write a review. Wink Always try to be objective, really opening with your opinion is not a good idea.I stopped reading your review with your first word boring
You should always take time out before you write a review...leave it a few days, you should always let your distaste wear off a bit before you write and always use humour when its a bad review.
Stops the reader from being bored and gives it a little substance.
Becoz at the end of the day ,it should be entertaining.
Diodude it is okay to give your opinion. That’s what the members are looking for, if folks agree with you on one cd review, they will likely continue reading your review and in the future trust your thoughts with other cd reviews.
But one of the main rules when writing a review, be prepared for negative feedback. Everyone has different tastes in music, so be prepared.

I just wished your review had been more entertaining.
Regardless of it being positive or negative.

My thoughts exactly....

Well done HM!

I don't usually read reviews. I can think and decide for myself. Wink

Interesting--i did not find this album boring in the least. I gave it about two weeks to settle in nicley before commenting on anything, but....

I think they are trying new things with textures and timing that are atypical of "Sabbath" of the past.

I particularly like the energy of Eating the Canibals, the doomy bass intro to Double the Pain and the jagged off timing of Fear.

Finally I think Ronnie had much more reign in the melody and lyrics writing in this one. There is more of a KtD and MotM in this than Dehumanizer or early Dio-era Sabs.

Certainly everyone is entitle to theirown opinion--that's what makes sharing them so great!

Give it another listen and if it still does not rock your world--as the majority of it does mine--then move on to something that does.

All The Best,
KEN

Rolling Eyes ...ay' ...pleased to meet ya Mr. Richard Cranium!... Razz ...So what instrument do you play?...Have you heard the whole new album or just the excerpts?!...Because first off...your statement that the the songs sound the same is obviously short sighted ...more over, you must be half deaf!...& if it does not sell well, then it will be yet another shining example of how most people do not have a clue what great music sounds like...& for you & others as such...Go try the new Nickleback CD... Rolling Eyes ...now there's a perfect example of a band that cannot begin to fucking come close to imagining the endless arsenal of Killer Riffs within Tony Iommi's repetoire!...Their latest album probably suits your mentality quite rite?!...so back to my question...what do you play?...I would be very interested to hear the awesome assorted variety of Heavy Motherfucking songs that the next masterpiece that you are about to release contains!... Laughing ...Your whole last post is that of someone who would no doubt be happier listening to Def Leppard!... Razz...because here is another one word review for you both...You...SUCK!...Be Gone! Laughing

I don't know why you got so mad???I just said my opinion about a cd.I'm not insulting your parents!!!Unless you are Dio's son Surprised I'm not into Def Leppard. In fact ,they are one of the bands I hate the most. One more thing.I'm a Dio fan since 1987,but that doesn't make me deaf either.I'm still able to make the difference between a good album like Last In Line,Holy Diver,Heaven and hell,Dehumanizer or Killing The Dragon, from a poor release like Angry Machines,Inferno or Devil I know(I'm sure you find Angry machines a masterpiece!!!).I'm still able to judge something objective even if I love what Dio has done in the past.I've listened to the whole album, and I still find it mediocre. And to tell you the truth, other than the slow boring Iommi riffs, even Dio voice is sounding very tired(listen to any other album before Angry Machines, and You'll see what I mean).I understand he's in the 60's,and his voice is getting old and tired(he still sounds great comparing with any other frontman at his age),and for that I'm very sorry but I can't say that his voice sounds better now than what it used to be back in the 80's because this is a lie.If you like to believe that, it's o.k with me,but believe me,this is not the truth. In the end,if you wanna listen to a good entertaining rock cd with great riffs, check Testament's "Formation of Damnation" or Motorhead's "Motorizer".Once again, don't be mad my friend. The future will tell us who is right about "Devil You Know".We'll see where the cd is going to be in the charts and how many people will show on their upcoming tour without Megadeth opening.

How do you know whether the cd is a flop or a hit when its not even out on the market yet?

hmmmmmmm?

To get your review from just samples of the cd is rather closed minded.

I think you should wait until the cd is out or all the songs are released before you jump... thats just my opinion.

Now lets play nice boys.... Smile

The promo copies have been out for a couple of weeks now, so the full versions are not that hard to get ahold of.

Definitely, no reason you cannot listen to the whole thing.

All The Best,
KEN

No my promo copy is the whole album--just a different sleeve.

Regardless I think the new album has a lot of diversity on it, Rock and Roll Angel sounds nothing like the plodding doom tunes like Atom and Evil or such. Not sure I would classify it better than Dehumanizer , Mob Rules or (for sure) Heaven & Hell, but nt boring in the least.

All The Best,
KEN

This is what its like being a DIO fan for many folks in here.
I am not saying EVERYONE feels like this but I am just hoping it will help you understand were I am coming from.

Ronnie James Dio is like a football team to me.
I have supported his music via cds,t-shirts,records and concerts for
as long as I can remember and I have kept up that support through the bad times as well.Just like a football team not every season is a winning season just like not every cd is gonna hit number 1.Yes there has been some low points but nothing humiliating, there is more massive highpoints to look back on than low points if you ask me.It is important to support Ronnie James Dio regardless if you think The Devil I know is good or poor.
I cannot enforce solidarity with the fans, this has to flow naturally.
We are all heavily influenced by the media and by the popular culture of the modern world...if its not Gold or Number 1 then the media like us to think its must be no good.
Of course this is crap...Ronnie James Dio and Heavy Metal in general has 3 things other music and artists don't have and I want to emphasise these 3 things; spiritual, intellectual and physical bonds these all exist in our genres of heavy metal music. This identity we all share it.
Instead of artificial differences which is mostly constructed by the media who don't have a bloody clue about what being a fan of Metal music means. I just think it is foolish to divide ourselves wilfully against each other.I think we should stand united and keep the spirit alive and as Ronnie would say....
Long Live Rock 'n' Roll
I know for my time on this forum there is a united spirit,we do have a great community of people standing together and sharing each other's joys when it comes to listening to Ronnie James Dio's music.
Really what we have in common is greater than any differences.
Don't even think about reading reviews before you buy the Heaven and Hell cd...this band deserves more respect than that.
