NO competition!

Have YOU ever heard of Brucy's version of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath?
GAWD, almighty...I like some of the early Maiden, and some of Bruce's solo stuff (Chemical Wedding, etc.) but that was the WORST version of that song I've EVER heard! He's fucking singing OFF key!

I never could figure out, why HE would let that even be released!

You would NEVER hear Ronnie singing off key, especially on a nationally released tune...though, I doubt Ronnie could even sing off key, if he tried! Wink

Bruce. All the way. Great singer, great band, great stage presence, great at talking to large audiences, always giving 110%.

I'm not saying Ronnie doesn't give his all, but sometimes I'm a little annoyed at how he talks to audiences. And in interviews. He just seems like he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, and that his opinion is, well, DUH, something you should listen to!

C'mon, guys, I like Ronnie too, but he's a little pretentious/pompous bastard, especially when compared to a guy like Bruce. Ronnie talks ALL the talk - you can do it, you can make it happen, don't give up, you can turn the wheel -- and Bruce lives it. I'm not saying Ronnie doesn't live on his own terms, but he strikes me as a guy who's fucked up alot of good things, burned alot of bridges, and is now forced to say, "I like it here where I am...look how positive I am about it!" because he can't say or do anything else about it. I'm not going to give more respect to Ronnie simply cause he's been in the business longer, or is older. That's no reason to say he's better than Mr. Dickinson. Both have great voices, but I look at it this way - Dio is NOT considered by very many to be the definitive Metal band. Iron Maiden have proven to be about as close as you can get (next to other staples like Priest or Metallica) to being THE definitive Metal band. So, in that respect, Bruce is the voice of one of the most definitive metal bands.

Bruce is a great frontman and can sing well . And it is close . But imo Dio is still a better singer . Also as a person Ronnie seems
much more down to earth .

Iron Maiden are my favourite band and always will be, but I'd say Ronnie is the better vocalist. Bruce is excellent now, but he had some horrible moments through the 80's (IMO), especially live. I found he was often off-key and "pitchy" back in the day. One of the things that amazes me most about Ronnie, is that he generally sounds as good live as he does on the albums. As much as I love Bruce and Maiden, some of the older live stuff is almost unlistenable due to the vocals being so "off". Maiden England, for example, was terrible. That said, I think Bruce is at his absolute best right now, and even when he had some bad vocal performances all those years ago, he made up for it in enthusiasm and stage performance. Again, this is all just my opinion. Not calling it fact or anything.

Hi,

New user here.

I have differing opinions on this.

I saw DIO live in Mannheim Germany back in 1990 or 91 when he was special guest for a Monsters of Rock-like concert. He was second bill. I went there strictly to hear Man on the Silver Mountain. He sounded awful. Awful in that he seemed like he was worn out. This was the year Lock up the Wolves came out.

Anyway, he sounded somewhat shitty. Although I enjoyed the show I kept thinking how unlike the studio he sounded. naturally, studio is polished and the artist is in optimal conditions. But live, the only time i've seen him, I thought he was weak.

Dickenson, I have seen live as well for two Maiden shows. 7th Son and Fear of the Dark. He sounded alright, closer to album quality. However I think he sounds like shit on "Real Dead One". Can't understand half of what he's singing.

My favorite of the two? Defenitly Dio. I don't think Dickenson can sing Dio songs and emphasize the lyrics the way RJD does. I also don't think Dio could pull off too many Iron Maiden tunes (except maybe Phantom of the Opera and most things from Piece of Mind excepting the Trooper). Although both metal, they are decidedly different styles both physically and lyrically.

Anyway..kick ass forum.

Oh man..That would be great though. I'd love to hear Dio singing some "Dickinson" Maiden, and hear Bruce singing Dio. I've heard some stuff where Halford sat in with Sabbath doing Dio era stuff and it was very cool.

I'd say that DIO takes a back seat to Halford, but to no one else, NO one else...Bruce just doesn't compare to DIO.

What a stupid question!??!=) Of Course it's DIO!!
Bruce is really good too but not better.
But one man is better than even these two...and he's David Coverdale! =)

Tough choice for me as I consider both as the two greatest heavy metal singers !!!
Anyway I'll go for Dio because of the high notes and the moving atmosphere they cause
