Something I'm confused about is the song Mystery,
A while back, reading through the CD booklet for The Very Beast of Dio,there was something that said Ronnie made Mystery in the style of Rainbow in the dark....
NOW
What confuses me,is from what I've heard,Ronnie doesn't like rainbow in the dark.
Did he do it just because Rainbow in the dark was a popular song?
I,myself,have no idea.... |

| NO it's not like that.i heard Ronnie in an interview saying that when they were making the Holy Diver album he didn't want Rainbow in the Dark in it because he didn't think it was too hard but the rest of the band wanted it so he did as they adviced him and he thanked them because afterwards it turned out to be a very successful song... |

Record companies push for radio hits. Rainbow in the Dark was too poppish sounding for him as he initially objected to the songs inclusion to the Holy Diver album. It turned out to be a hit and well record companies demand a repeat. Enter Mystery as the next hopeful ringer on the next album.
There was a time when bands released tracks as singles before the actual album was released. These particular tracks are hoped to cause a frenzy to then buy the album. These singles had an A side and a B side.
Anyone know what the B side single was for Rainbow in the Dark?
Hint, it was not on the Holy Diver album. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,

Yeah I know Ronnie's opinion on the song. I got into it when I've heard the lyrics, actually (which impressed me and made me see this song as a heavier one than the music makes it; I loved the metaphor of being a rainbow - something so rare and precious and beautiful - but in the dark - unseen, useless, hidden).
But when I've seen Ronnie singing it on stage... I thought: "HE doesn't get it!" Because he sang it so... poppy and joyful and it was not a joyful song! This amazed me... |
