It's my opinion logically. I like many hard and heavy album and many band from Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Judas, Ac/Dc, Iron, Saxon and more than NWOBHM, Queen, and many others. I'm crazy for many album of seventies an eighties, but for me HaH has somthing more than others! I think the Dio's voice together Iommi's riff and solos more Butler's bass sound is a real work of art!
For me is Hard Rock because there are Keyboards and the sound is near Long live.. than Painkiller, however HR of HM , HaH remain a work of art!!!

...for me it most certainly is!...this is the album that introduced me to RJD...of course all of his other works are just as inspiring...but this is the one that I will always consider to be #1... |

If it isn't the best, it's certainly one of the best and probably my favourite. If I was asked to name one song as the greatest of all time, I would say the title track in a heartbeat.
Of course Sabbath and Dio have recorded many albums that could be the greatest, Ronnie's featured on three that are often called 'definitive'. _________________ Rest in peace Ronnie James Dio |

Although I love DEHUMANIZER....I think that Heaven and Hell was where they got their roots and I doubt that it will ever be surpassed (as a whole)
What I would LOVE to hear them remake is the old Rainbow song:
TEMPLE OF THE KING
Doing that with a Black Sabbath feeling would be especially awesome!!! _________________

| I REALLY don't think Sabbath would work well with that 'soft ballad' at all, even transforming it to fit the Sabbath sound...I think it would be a mistake. The song was meant as a soft, beautiful ballad. I'm all for DIO to take it own though, as they have a lessened darker and heavier edge than Sabbath does. |

"Heaven And Hell" is definitely one of the greatest and most influential heavy rock/heavy metal albums ever made, a true classic that every heavy rock/heavy metal fan should acknowledge. Powerful, musically excellent songs which have lasted in the minds of the fans for about 28 years now... _________________ HEAVY FUCKING METAL!!! |

| I don't know. IN fact, with years, I stopped considering Dio as together with hard/metal. I take RJD as a category in itself. So I can't compare! |

I think to classify something as the greatest of its genre it has to be groundbreaking and to a certain extent original. Heaven & Hell wasn't really either of these........not to say it's not a bloody brilliant album, classic in fact, but it was nothing new and there are better albums out there. But we all have opinions. Best doesn't mean favourite
Die Young, Nean Knigts and Children Of The Sea are some of the best tracks Sabbath ever recorded. Then there's the title track...........a masterpiece |
For me this album WAS ground breaking because in my opinion i had never heard a voice and a guitar combination like that, it changed my taste in music in a lot of ways so i do see what he's getting at, and at the same time i myself can never say this or that is my favorite because an album is a complex thing to which so much is involved that i can't really pin down one work. _________________ GUITARGOD |

This was a genre defining record, and showed that heavy metal was far from dead as many had predicted, and was in fact just beginning to flower!
This album said to all the new wavers, disco idiots and music magazine punk darlings "We're far from dead you f*ckers! And we can still kick your ass any day of the week we feel like it!"
That being said, I think The Ramones "Too Tuff To Die" is actually a heavy metal classic, with production rivalling H&H (if you don't believe me check it out yourself).
But also Mob Rules is a heck of a good album, and as good as the drumming is on H&H, I think the drumming on Mob Rules is even better. So glad Vinnie's back in the band! _________________ Bass guitarists hold it all together. |
