Dehumanizer: one of the best hard rock albums by anyone, ever
The Mob Rules: All great songs; no filler (which cannot be said for the overrated Heaven & Hell)
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow: (The real Rainbow masterpiece)
Magica and Holy Diver are runners-up |

I can't quite choose only three. However, I've noticed I have two favorite albums from each of Ronnie's bands and I constantly "switch" from one to the other. Here's what I mean:
BLACK SABBATH:
Heaven and Hell (the starter, for me! It got me into Dio) or
Dehumanizer (blows my mind! I instantly fell in love with most of the songs when I heard this album!)
RAINBOW:
Rainbow Rising (great, great album, but most of all... it has Stargazer on it; this is probably among my top 5 songs ever!) - or
Long Live Rock'n'Roll (solid album, powerful songs, all very good; I totally love this album; at first it was my fav Rainbow album; also, LLRNR is one of the first Dio songs I've heard)
DIO:
Holy Diver (it just gets more impressive with every time I listen to it! This album is a masterpiece and each song is great!) - or
Magica (I have a serious crush on "Magica" - the story and the music! From time to time it is my favorite Dio album). |

just Dio? i can't do it. I just can't do it.
i like them all about equally.
although Last in Line is essential.
~ yaaa ~ for different reasons
i like Lock Up the Wolves just as much as
Holy Diver,
it doesn't matter what era or order they came in.
every Dio cd/album has a precious value to me
for each time period it was at in my life.
but... as i somewhat liked the experimental-ishness
of some of the "*whine*, it doesn't sound like classic ronnie" albums
like
Strange Highways
and
Angry Machines.
(and of course Magica)
i know. go ahead. hate me.
but
i kind of miss that 'out there' edgy experimentiveness
that seems to be apparent on those albums.
NOT... that i wasn't ecstatic with the return to
classic format with Killing the Dragon.
and Master of the Moon.
so...
what was the question?!?
oh.
what three albums.
ok my favorite three Dio albums are
1. Last in Line
2. Master of the Moon
3. Dream Evil
even if i am arbitrarily choosing.
i just realized i can't really do it.
favorite 3 Dio- *related* albums of all time??
so much easier, for some reason
1. heaven and hell
2. long live rock and roll
3. last in line _________________ first in line to listen to last in line |

I've been listening to alot of Dio lately and I'm going to have to change my picks.
My three fave Dio band albums are, in no order:
- Magica
- Holy Diver
- Strange Highways
close runner-ups
- Dream Evil
- Killing The Dragon
My three fave Rainbow albums in no order are:
- Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow
- Rising
- Live in Nurnberg 1976
My three fave Sabbs albums, in no order are:
- Heaven & Hell Live at Radio City
- Live Evil (Excellent versions of Black Sabbath, Warpigs + the Dio-era tracks)
- Dehumanizer (absolutely love this album, especially After All, Buried Alive, TV Crimes and Letters From Earth) |

Shoot....
That's a tough one.
Rising, because Ronnie really broke the mold there, then again,he always does
Holy Diver,because it's history.Period.
Maybe Dream Evil. There's some great songs on there. |

I haven't got acquainted with Dio works in Blask Sabbath and Rainbow yet, so I'll chose just from his solo ones.
1. Holy Diver
2. The Last In Line

Here's my list:
MAGICA - Dio had the balls to make it - I've got the balls to listen!!!
Lock Up The Wolves - I love wolves. I've never seen one in person so they seem more mysterious!
Holy Diver - My dad still thinks it's the best!!! COOL BEANS! |

| Magica, musically ranks up as one of my favourite albums - it's all thick and heavy and well... MAGICAL. Dio has aggressive and heavenly parts nicely balanced which just adds to the album's presence. Maybe a bit lyrically lacking chorus-wise. But I really love the whole atmos of the album and it's concept. Dio reading the story as in end is quite cool as well, but I can understand people's annoyance with it. My major beef with it however, is the idea to have so many 'interludes' and parts instead of having two 5 minute tracks we have 4 two minute tracks and reprisals - it just irritates me. I understand it's a concept album and he wants to have the themes and feelings running through consitently. However I just find them an interruption instead of being able to enjoy the full piece. Esp. the computerised sections. "What is love?" etc. But really I don't understand the animosity towards it and I'm glad to see Dio still retains a real passion for the album and it's ideas and hasn't caved under to all the flack he was given for it. |

wow, damn, tough one........
Last in Line : Mainly because it was my first exposure to dio at the age of 13, and was also the first tour i was blessed enough to see live.
Rising : I just love this album from beginning to end, I can remember being AMAZED the first time I heard Stargazer cranked up under my headphones.
Strange Highways : I'm sure many disagree with me, but for some reason I just love this C.D. Granted, tracy g is not my favorite Dio guitarist, but I just love the heavy pace of this one. Pain, Strange Highways, Eviloution, Give Her The Gun.
I can't pick 3 and say they are my favs though, I could go through EVERY album and give atleast one reason that I think it is great. |
