Nice to see a Nashvillian, Gamergirl. I used to live there, and my parents still do. I'm going there to visit in a few weeks and taking them to see Norah Jones at the Ryman.

Back to Tennessee, I actually live in Shelbyville at the moment, though I spent a big part of my live in Nashville. Nice to see another Nashvillian here, too!! Are you planning on going to the Sabbath show? If so, when?

I live in San Antonio now. When I lived there, I was actually in Nolensville. My parents live in Bellevue, and I come there once to twice a year. Also have family in Knoxville and Chattanooga, so I visit TN frequently.

Yeah, I'm going to the H&H show here in San Antonio on May 1st. Got a front row seat, I was so lucky!

Tony Iommi is the greatest guitarist who ever lived. I would be honored just to shake his hand, but i am unworthy of shaking hands with the Father of Heavy Metal

My vote goes to Rainbow.
I know Sabbath has released some great albums and that they were very important to metal that time. But for me Rainbow is better, and more important.

I have been wondering about this lately.

What was the first real and true authentic Metal album?

Not heavy blues like Zeppelin or Sabbath, but real true authentic Metal sound.

I have heard people say that it was J. Priest's - "Stained Class" CD, but after hearing songs from Rainbow "Rising", I am starting to reconsider that.

"Stone Cold Crazy" and "Sheer Heart Attack title song" from QUEEN I guess would be considered as mid-70's Thrash Metal, but sadly that was only 2 songs. Their other stuff was not as heavy as those were.

I kept hearing different stories that everything from Priest's "Stained Class" CD was, to Rainbow "Rising" CD was, to maybe QUEEN's "Sheer Heart Attack" CD was.

The original Sabbath is of course great, producing at least six great albums. However, as far as I am concerned the three albums and the live album Rainbow released with Dio are even better.. so I voted for Rainbow.

The question's not about which band is better influentially, who cares if Black Sabbath "created" Heavy Metal, the poll's about which band with the stated lineups was the better, musically.

Rising can probably knock the living daylights out of anything Ozzy can think of, to some people it's true, IMO. Paranoid vs Rising... Stargazer vs Paranoid, Light In The Black vs War Pigs
Tarot Woman vs Iron Man.

Add the same formula to other albums then think.
To compare bands you compare the songs and albums.

To Answer the poll's question think it like this, which band's songs do you like better overall, it's quality not quantity. If you think about it this then choose which band's songs you prefer.

I would have to go with orginal Sabbath . Iommi had so many great riffs . And Geezers song writing fit perfectly with them .
The first 3 albums had atleast 3 classic riffs per album . Ritchie
imo on the 3 Rainbow albums really only had Man on the Silver Mountain , And Kill The King . But Dio's song writing is what made those Raibow albums shine .

Well Sabbath, even according to the words of Dio, were the frist metal band. they invented the hard rifs, a good movie/ documentary to watch would be "metal: a headbangas way" its excelent

I watched the 7 stages of Rock : Never Say Die Heavy Metal on VH1 yesterday. I was happy that credit for the original Metal was given ot Sabbath and Deep Purple (Not Zeppelin as popular culture likes to imply) However I was disappoined that when they got to Ozzy being fired, they didnt go any farther with the Sabbath influence on the Genre. They came back with Ozzy and Randy, but no Dio with Sabbath. For true fans of Metal we all really understand the impact of the Dio era of Metal. His time with Blackmore was equally important to the development of Metal. Not to mention his ability to fill arenas back in the eighties with Dio. Too often these shows forget about him and its heartbreaking. I wish they would do a behind the music on him, but no one wants to watch the story about a great singer who didnt fall apart because of drugs , and didnt loose evereything in the process.
